    1. [TNGILES-L] Wonderful Response from Giles County
    2. Gail In reply to your query, I received wonderful responses from Giles County. Dave Worsham, county coordinator for the Tennessee county, listed on the Giles page all the Harwells and Sanduskys he could find in the cemeteries. Unfortunately the list did not include Martha Ann Harwell, who died August 13, 1884, and her parents, Jacob R. and Orlean(Harwell) Sandusky. However, it came up with names I did not have in the Sandusky genealogy. There were also responses from Sue Davis and Mrs. Mize and others. Thanks to all. I would like another name to the Surname Registry. Solomon Smith is said to have married Rosannah Leath. I would like details. Were any of their sons in uniform during the War between the States? PEERY, b: Abt 1805 in Giles, TN, m: Abt 1828, d: April 24, 1858 in Verona, Lawrence Cy, MO. Don't know her parents or siblings. I am not sure of her last name - it may be PEERY or PERRY. Some report her to have been born in Virginia (Tazewell?) and her birth year varies from 1800 to 1805. Andrew and Margaret migrated to Missouri between the Mexican War and the Civil War. Andrew remarried in Missouri after Margaret died. Any help in finding GGGGrandma is appreciated. -- Roger Hillhouse rhillhouse@earthlink.net San Diego, California

    3. Watch out for the chiggers - my dad and I were in Wayne County this weekend and the little critters are bad. I'm sure your pharmacist has something that will deter them from burying their little selves in your body. In the meantime - I'm scratching in Tennessee. 2. David Coker
    3. I recently obtained a copy of the page of the 1860 Census for Giles Co that lists my gr gr grandfather Asa Coker (p 112) from the National Archives. The Post Office listed was "bali Mills". The copy is not very good so I may not have the spelling correct. Has anyone heard of bali Mills? It was listed as the Southern Subdivision. Thanks David Coker

She's not sure she can find it. 1. Do any of you know how to get to Booth Chapel Cemetery from Minor Hill? 2. We also plan to look for my g-g-g-grandfather's grave at the Minor Hill Cemetery. Is there any way to keep from having to scan every tombstone to find him? 3. Are there any other cemeteries of historical interest in that immediate area west of Pulaski? I am looking for Hillis descendants, but would like to visit any that might be interesting. (If Minnie from Texas or Joy from Rogersville sees this message, please respond if you know of any Hillis graves that might be of interest to me in Giles Co. 3. According to the state library's Giles County Profile, deeds from 1810 are avavilable on microfilm, with a deed index for 1810-1895 available through interlibrary loan. 1. [TNGILES-L] An interesting program
    2. Marilyn K. Hare
    3. Have you used Travel Maps USA from COSMI? What makes this program different from others I've seen is it includes cemetery locations and names of historic sites such as schools. Search able by several methods. One can even add text and symbols to printable maps. Available for $9.96 at WalMart, runs on Windows 95 or higher. I must add that not all cemeteries are shown but a large number are. Two shown that were recently referenced on this list are the Legg cemetery just south of Bethel and the Beech Grove cemetery on Dog Branch. An historic school shown is Hannah School which has not been in existence for many years. Marilyn

    1. [TNGILES-L] Madry/Shields
    2. Tommy Stephenson
    3. Elaine, I tried to reach you by email, but I could not get through to you. I remember your earlier message on Madray/Shields There was a Leander A. Shields b.1840 in Giles ,parents unknown. He married Elizabeth Madry in Giles in 1859. George Shields lived in Pendleton County,S.C. in 1800 and Alexander Barron was his neighbor there. By 1814,the Shields,Barrons, and Montgomerys were living near Elkridge in Giles. When my Samuel Stephenson reached the age of 21, in 1816,he sold his inheritance that he had received from his father Robert Stephenson in York County,S.C.and took off for Giles County,TN. to join his sisters Dorcas Stephenson Barron and Margaret Stephenson Montgomery. You mentioned Holts and Barrons in Limestone County. There were several families of Holts living in Limestone including Edmund and Nancy of Giles County in 1850. A large number of Holt families, probably related, lived in Giles, the Bunker Hill area. Some of the Barrons went on to Lauderdale County,Al. They might have stopped off in Limestone. George Stephenson married Elizabeth PERRY in Giles in 1849. Their daughter,Josephine Stephenson b. 1859 in Giles Co.,TN.,died in Athens,Alabama,Limestone County,in 1883. She is buried in the Hudson Cemetery near Athens. George's daughter,Mary Sue Stephenson b. Giles County in 1860 married Frank Monroe Hudson in Limestone in 1883. Wish you good hunting on your trip to Limestone County,Al. Tom Stephenson

    1. [TNGILES-L] Susan F. Stephenson
    2. Tommy Stephenson
    3. A Robert S. Stephenson, age 26, lived in Madison County,Al.in 1850. His wife was a Susan F. Stephenson b. TN. She was 22 years old in 1850. They had a son James B. Stephenson b. 1848, and they later had a daughter,Elizabeth Stephenson who married a William COLE. A Willam Stephenson died in Madison in 1872 and Susan F.Stephenson's maiden name was mentioned as either a JUDE or DOUGLAS. A Mary Maddox of Giles County,TN. was also mentioned. This William Stephenson's wife was a Mary Clutts. I believe Robert S. Stephenson was the son of Samuel John Robert Stephenson and his wife Mary Shields Stephenson. Samuel Stephenson,Montgomerys, and Barrons, all related, lived in Giles County,TN. in 1820. Samuel Stephenson went to Limestone in 183O where he lived close to a Thomas FOGG. Susan F. Stephenson's maiden name might have been Fogg. Sylvester Stephenson, son of Samuel and Mary Stephenson, married Mary Holt of Giles County,TN. Either he or his wife Mary Holt had relatives by the surnames of BROWN and FOGG. The last trace of Samuel Stephenson and Mary Shields Stephenson is on the 1860 Census of Madison County,Al. Robert S.Stephenson died in Wood County,TX. in the 1880's and Susan F. was living in McLennan County,TX. in 1886. Also looking for a William BUCHANAN who married Mary A. Stephenson in Limestone in 1872. Any help identifying Suan F. would be appreciated. Grasping at straws, but I believe she was from Giles County,TN. Tom Stephenson
