    1. [TNGILES-L] Chapman name
    2. I have a name from the 1900 Giles Co. census I need assistance on. In district 19 there is a Sarah J Bray, age 40. She is living with her father, Joseph M Chapman. There are also 8 children with the Bray name, listed as his grandchildren, living there. Who is Sarah J Bray? I know Joseph's wife Louise Rackley was married to a Bray before she married him. Is this her daughter by first marriage? They why do the children have the Bray name if she was married. Any help would be appreciated. Norma and David Rogers.

    1. [TNGILES-L] Hamilton family
    2. Larry D. Hamilton Coats
    3. Hi to all on this list! Am anxious to see if anyone has Hamilton lines of descent in Giles Co. that may lead back across the county line into Lincoln County. I have a number of Hamiltons liv. on or near Kelly's Creek in LCT; some of them may have found their way across the county line into Giles. In LC, I have a James M. Hamilton(b.c. 1780 SC)and his bro., Wm(b.c. 1785 SC). They may have had other bros. named: Daniel, Alexander, Geo., Claude, and Andrew. One other bro., John David, b. 1772 York Co. SC, d. in Marshall Co. TN in 1845 but some of his descendants wound up in LC. So, if you have Hamiltons in Giles in the 1820-50 time frame, would like to know their names, etc.. Would be glad to exchange info. - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Larry D. Hamilton Coats P.O. 1. [TNGILES-L] Inheritance Laws
    2. Does anyone out there know if there was a law that kept Indians from inheriting property from Whites? I have an instance where my g-g-g-grandfather died in the 1880s in Giles Co. and did not mention his wife in his will. He also didn't leave hardly anything to some of his children. The children contested the will and the courts ruled that the land was to be sold and the proceeds divided among the children. The court didn't mention the widow at all. The widow was not the children's mother and it is believed that she might have been an Indian. I can't figure out why the court didn't mention her. Thanks, Mike Chapman

    1. [TNGILES-L] Long/Fralix
    2. Hi List, I have another surname to add to my LONG branch. The surname FRALIX. According to Funeral Home Records, Reba Jewel Long, Daughter of Wesley Long and Mary Lou Randolph, married Early Wayne Fralix . Reba Jewel Long was born September 14, 1920 & died April 19, 1985, she is buried at Booth's Chapel Cemetery. Does anyone have info they can share ? Also, does anyone know if Cullem Harvie Long born Aug. 9, 1916, died Dec.29, 1953 & his wife Maggie Simpson had any children ? Cullem Harvie was my great uncle's ( Ezra Long ) son.

    1. [TNGILES-L] Frank, Babe, & Mary Lou Randolph
    2. I was informed this morning that Mary Lou Randolph, daughter of Frank & Babe Randolph, and wife of Wesley Long, died April 22, 1961 in Athens, Alabama and is buried at Booth's Chapel Cemetery. Who was Babe Randolph ? Was this Frank Randolph the same Frank Randolph listed on the 1910 & 1920 census of Giles co. as being married to Martha ( Stafford ) ? I have been told that Mary Lou Randolph was the sister of my grandmother, Emma Lee Randolph. This line is getting very confusing. Robbie

    1. [TNGILES-L] Need some help re: Census / migration
    2. My ancestor Henry N. Brashears married circa 1869 to Mary Ann Brownlow. I was told that he was listed on the 1880 census in Giles with Mary and 5 of their children, however I searched the soundex and did not find them, my library does not have the census index on book. I also am wanting to see if he is on the 1870 census and could not locate him. Does anyone have access to these books that can look for me? I would be happy to pay for copies and am able to reciprocate with a lookup at Clayton Library if it would help you? In 1886 apx date, he moved to TX/IT with his brothers, children and sisters. His wife then deceased. tia, cheryl
