    2. Researching DENTON and BLASSINGAME (with alternate spellings) in early Giles County, especially members of those families like Ed Denton and Wade Blassingame that moved from there into northern Alabama counties (Franklin, Limestone, etc) in the 1820s and 1830s. I would like to get a clearer picture of this migration as well as just who was involved in it. Grateful for any help. Thanks, John Ottinger

    1. Re: [TNGILES-L] 1860-1870 census index
    2. M. HILLIS REAGOR
    3. Hello,Pam. In looking at the !860 and 1870 Census Index, I found the following: [CLEM surname; all in Southern Subdivision] 1860; Giles Co,TN. Pg# 51: Calvin A., Madison L., Margaret A., Martha H., William A.J., William B. [who was noted as HOH]. Pg# 58: Brice M.L., Eliza, Elzira, George T., Mary E., Nancy, Sarah M., William [who was noted as HOH]. Pg# 64: Isaac 1870: I didn't find any CLEMS in Giles Co,TN., which probably means that they removed to another area [or were missed in the census count...]. In the Index, there was "William CLEM" in Izard Co,AR [1]; Clark Co,KY [1]; Harlan Co,KY [4]; Shenandoah Co,VA. [4]; Marion Co,IN [1]. (I did locate a Sarah F. CLEM in 1870, Johnson Twp., Shenandoah Co,VA.) NOTES: I'm just guessing [I have not checked the census records], but my guess is that William B. [Pg. 51] may be the son of William [Pg. 58], and that William A.J. may be your "James CLEM". I don't know whether Isaac is on his own, or a member of someone else's household... might even be the "grandfather" in a married daughter's home...? This is something you will just have to check out, so don't jump to conclusions! Taking this supposition into account, you will probably want to check out the William CLEMs in [1870] Harlan Co,KY, and especially Shenandoah Co,VA. - in the event that the entire family moved together... but then again, it may be entirely different CLEMs... [Just out of curiosity, please let me know the outcome!] ___Minnie HILLIS REAGOR boan wrote: > Hi > does anyone have the index or actual census of the 1860 and or 1870 giles > co tn census. > I am looking for parents of my Clem ancestors. > James Clem and his sister S. 3. Hello everyone. I am a descendant of Alexander HOOD (b.abt 1784 in VA), who was living in Giles Co. from at least 1812-1820. He was in Fayette Co.,TN by 1835. His daughter Maranda C. HOOD married Mathew J. REAMES/REAMS probably in the early 1830's. M.J.REAMES (b.July 20,1811 in TN or NC) is my "brick wall" - I don't know where he came from. Does anyone have information on REAMES or HOOD families living in Giles Co. from 1812-1835? I would appreciate any help. Thanks. Sharon sharjaim@sat.net

    1. [TNGILES-L] THURMAN/HEWITT/HARRISON/BALL
    2. Flowers Joseph M CPT 3ID COMPTROLLER
    3. Greetings - I noticed on the Family Search site from the LDS, there seemed to be a number of Thurmans who had Giles marriage dates 1868-1882. I figured I 'd take a shot and see if any descendants were a part of this list. My interest - I am trying to find info on my GGGGrandmother Angeline BALL, who was married to Robert Armstrong HEWITT Jr. I know in a 1860 census, she is listed with R. A. , along with a 15 yr old James HARRISON (and I have an Angeline BALL maried to JW HARRISON in Davidson in 1843, so that matches up.) I cannot find any reference to her marriage to HEWITT. He was captured at Ft Donelson, and died a POW at Camp Morton, IN. This is where the THURMANs come in - Angeline HEWITT married W.R. THURMAN in 1871 in Giles. I know absolutely nothing about Angeline. Does any of this ring a bell with anyone? Thanks for your time and assistance, Joe Flowers

    3. Greetings - Would the folks who emailed me requesting photos (way back in July, I think it was) of their ancestors name on either the new Camp Morton memorial in Crown Hill or the original in Garfield Park please e-mail me again. I seem to have misplaced the email addresses. I can send electronic photos, but I'm not sure as to the digital resolution. If you send me a mailing address, I can pop them in the mail (I can't promise when, but soon...) If you didn't request a specific name before, but have an interest, I did try to take pictures of all of the names - but some are not overly clear. I can also send pictures of the monument(s) in general. Joe

    1. [TNGILES-L] Taylors of VA & TN
    2. Debra McCann
    3. Hi All, I am researching a James H. Taylor b. 1817 TN m. Lucy Ann Phillips b. 1818 TN, m. 1834 Pulaski, Giles Co., TN Children: Olivia A., David, Robert, Mary E., Eliza J., John J. and Zachary This family was living in District #10 in the 1850 Giles Co., TN Census. By the 1860 Census they are gone and they don't show up again until the 1870 Henry Co., TN Census. The Taylors of Giles Co., TN descend from George Taylor b. 1615 and his wife Rebecca Tomlin. I have a lot of info on the descendants of George, who is first found in Rappahannock Co., VA. This family eventually moved on to Henrico Co., VA, which became Chesterfield Co., and then to Henry Co., VA before coming to TN. I believe that James H. Taylor is related, but I cannot connect him to these Taylors until I know who his parents are. Any information on this family would be appreciated. I would be happy to share what I have on the Taylors, including the Worshams, several of which married into this Taylor family.
