    1. [TNGILES-L] 1999 in Review
    2. David Worsham
    3. Hi Folks, 1999 was my second year as Giles County Coordinator. Our site keep growing by leaps and bounds. Two years ago, there was about 2.5 mb's of data stored. Today there is ten times that amount. A tribute to all of you who have made so many contributions to help make our county I believe to be the best in the state. Here are a few numbers to show our size: Number of visitors (20 months) = 38400 Average number of visitors per day = 62 mail list subscribers = 424 Total data files = 1235 Total photo images = 137 Total disk space used = 27.3 mb Number of updates this year = 83 Total number of queries = 1127 Total number of surnames registered = 607 My goals for the upcoming year are: To continue to solicit and encourage people to contribute more items. To complete the transcription of the 1850 Census To improve the accuracy of the Search Engine function If anyone has any other ideas as to improve our site, don't hesitate to send them to me. Again, thanx to all of you who have made so many contributions during the last year. Dave Worsham Giles County Coordinator www.rootsweb.com/~tngiles

    3. My wife's grandfather was Hugh King Thompson, b May 1852, m 27 Aug 1875 Giles Co to Mary Elizabeth Hewitt. I've often wondered if there was a King surname in Thompson's ancestry, since it was often the custom back then to use a maiden name that way. If anyone has a link between the King family and the Thompson family I would very much like to hear of it. Happy Y2K, Jim Frimmel Weatherford, TX

    1. [TNGILES-L] Puncheon Camp Church Minutes
    2. Jane Gilbert
    3. Greetings researchers! I have a problem I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with... I noticed on the Lookup Volunteer section of the Giles Co. Rootsweb site that there was a volunteer for looking up information in the Puncheon Camp Church Minutes. I've written him twice over the past few months, and have received no response. I suspect that his e-mail address may be "dead" or that he just doesn't check it anymore. Does anyone else know how I might be able to get information from these minutes? Does the church still exist? And by chance does anyone know when the church was formed? I have a very tough research problem I'm trying to solve, and these church records may answer a lot of questions if it was around back in the mid 1800s. Thanks much and Happy New Year! 3. Kathleen, I'm not researching KINGs, but did a lookup for you in the Census Indexes... 1840: There was no listings for a Garrison KING - anywhere! But there was a listing for a "Gary" KING... perhaps he went by "Gary"? This listing was in Barbour Co,AL., Page 76. 1850: There was one Garrison KING listed in Middle District, Dickson Co,TN., Page 54. 1860: I found no listing for a Garrison or Gary KING anywhere, which may relate to the Garrison KING that died in 1853, per the former message received... perhaps it was the same person...?

    3. Garrison King was in the 1820 Giles County, TN. census listed as such: Garrison King-100010/10010/0 1 male 0-10 years 1 male 26-44 1 female 0-10 years 1 female 19-25 So, this Garrison King was between 26 to 44 years of age, putting his birth between 1776 and 1794. Most likely he was born closer to 1794. Garrison King was in still in Giles Co. in 1830. 1830 Giles Co., TN. Census Garison King-111001-11001 1 male 0-5 1 male-5-10 1 male-10-15 1 male-30-40 1 female -0-5 1 female- 5-10 1 female - 20-30 Garrison King was not in the 1840 Giles Co., TN. census, nor the 1850 Giles Co., TN. census. It would seem that Garrison King left between 1830 and 1840. I, also, checked the 1836 Giles County, TN. Tax List and I didn't find Garrison King listed. This is all I have on Garrison King at the moment.

    2. Hi there Kathleen Don't know for sure if this is the same Garrison King but I found in Sacul, Nacogdoches Co., Texas at the Sacul Cemetery a Garrison King which said he was the son of J.T. King and Nancy Sebastian King. He was born 12-1-1820 and died 10-17-1853. Next to him was Turner Garrison King which said son of Garrison King and Mary Francis King. He was born 7-27-1850 and died 5-25-1865. My mother-in-law's maiden name was King and her ancestors came from Lincoln Co., Tennessee to Sacul, Texas. I've been trying to find out how this Garrison King fits into the picture. I would think that he was related to my Mother-in-law's family someway. Would love to hear from you. 3. Cynthia : My primary research is the Pyle surname in Giles Co. however of the Pyle's that were there Henry G. Pyle is the only one that did not move to Oklahoma in the late 1800's he is the younger brother of my gr gr grandfather Willis C Pyle and until just yesterday I did not know of any children that he had. I talked to a man last night that lives on Dog Branch Road where the Pyle family had lived and he said his father had told him of the Pyle family and that the girls name was Dazie Pyle and that she had married a Lee Halton or Holton apparently they lived with Henry G.Pyle and Maggie his wife. Henry died November of 1910 so he died after the census was taken. I wonder if Dazie is the only child of Henry G. and Maggie Pyle? If so she was born late into the marriage of Henry and Maggie as they were married in 1877 according to the 1880 census they had no children. As for the Halton or Holton name I would appreciate any help on them if anyone has any information. Oh and I too believe that the children of Lee and Dazie are Othia and Jules at least that is the best that I can read it Thanks alot for your help Robert -----Original Message----- From: Cynthia E.
