Walker & als JOHN A PEDEN John A. & Griffith S. Walker of Giles Co vs JOHN A. PEDEN of Arkansas. The complainants represented that about Jan 1, 1875, they purchased of defendant JOHN A. PEDEN, a Steam and SAW Mill which was located near Prospect, Giles Co TN, at the price of $2000.00 for which two notes were executed. There is no decree in this case only a Demurer of Roseneau & Loveman. File Box W-19, Case 1809 Will of James Armstrong, 1893. This is a lengthy will. Three fourths of the way down; The heirs of James Armstrong suing for their share of his estate. In the depositions of James Brasher given Aug 26, 1872, at the age of 71 years, in Crittenden Co KY, he testified he knew James Armstrong in SC in 1812, that they moved from SC to Caldwell Co KY and that James Armstrong was his mother's brother. When the land was sold by the Clerk and Master on Nov 2, 1865, THOMAS J. PEDEN became the purchaser of the James Armstrong tract of 162 acres. This deed is registered in Deed Book EE , page 131, Angenol Cox, Clerk and Master, to THOMAS J. PEDEN. This land lay on Haywood Creek. There is and old, old deed in this Case, dated 1820, Nov 21 between William & Egbert Sheperd to James Armstrong. This is a wonderful genealogy of the Armstrong family. There are depositions that tell about the family and who the children married. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SeB.2ACE/709 Message Board Post: I got your email from the Williamson County, Tn genealogical site. I am doing my husband's Cabler genealogy and I know that there were a few Cablers in Williamson County in the 20 years leading to the Civil War. My husband's ggg grandfather was James Boyd Cabler who enlisted in the Civil War in Maury Co. as part of the 9th Tenn Cavalry. Later, he "reinlisted" when his original regiment was (I suppose) devastated and was transferred to the 13th Regiment of Tennessee. We don't necessarily believe he was from Maury County specifically but may have simply settled there at the time as he was already 32. From what research I have been able to accomplish, I have deduced that the Cablers were big on naming their children with middle names that were significant for one reason or another i.e. James Boyd later names his son John Morgan Cabler after John Hunt Morgan (again deducing this) whom he fought under during the first half of his enlistment. John Morgan names his son James Boyd II and so on. I am thinking that James Boyd the I, of whom I am inquiring, was probably named 1. for his mother's maiden name, Boyd (if she exists) or 2. for a Boyd with whom his father may have worked closely. James Boyd Cabler was married to a Sarah E. Forsythe in Maury Co. in February of 1858 and Sarah E. Kellam in 1863. ( I have photocopies of both documents). I also find this to be an interesting coincidence that both of his wives had the same first names and initials. I have often wondered if he married before the war; she thought he had been killed thus she remarried; and then he returns suddenly in the middle of the war and they remarry to each other again. Both of these marriages take place in Maury County and Maury County (from what I can tell from queries I've made and info I have access to here in Lauderdale County, AL) has no record of either of the Sarahs' deaths. As I have no proof (or for that matter, even an inkling) of who James Boyd Cabler's (December 3, 1832- May 28, 1906) parents were, I am hoping you might be able to help me. Do you know of any Boyds, James Boyds, or Boyds that married or were close to Cablers in Williamson County during the 1820's-30's? Or can you give me leads?? I know there were a smattering of Cablers in Maury, Williamson, and Davidson- mostly around Nashville that is during this time. I have been told long ago that there was an Elizabeth and Benjamin Cabler that supposedly were his parents but I have found absolutely NOTHING whatsoever to corroborate this nor have I found any census info or otherwise to corroborate the existence of these two people. Sorry to be so long-winded. If you can help...please let me know. Thanks, Wendy Joyce Cabler Lauderdale (Florence) Co. I`ve noticed the many queries for white families and would like to see a DNA chart. I tried the link on a former query vut it didn`t get me there. I MAY have an ancestor by the name of Nancy White *maiden name unknown) said by family tradition to be the wife of one James Wall Rev. Soldier from N. C. PROBABLY. She would have been the mother of our Clement K. Wall born in 1779 POSSIBLY in Guilford Co. N. C.but we are not sure at all. Clement shows up on the 1800 census of Guilford Co. N. C. His wife was named Margaret and we are supposing her maiden name to be Brown (only a theory) Does anyone have anything to add to this possible White line of Nancy born about 1750 or 1760. I realize thise isn`t much to go on. Thanks for help in the past. Sue

For the past 5 years I've been working on the NEW family of Giles County circa 1810-1830. Several years ago someone contacted me regarding a child (male I think) last name of WHITE. From what I remember, apparently this child's Mother died and this child lived with Pleasant New and Rutha his wife, while the Father went to TEXAS??? If the person that sent me that message is still out there, I'd like to ask he/she some questions. Pleasant New was a brother to John New and our ancestor William New Thanks for any help Bette (New) Sousa
There are a number of WHITE families in Giles Co Tennessee. Our line is the James & Celia Curbo White family of Shoal Creek near Minor Hill, who first show up in the 1850 census. Many of the family, including James & Sealy White, are buried there in the White-Lawrence cemetery on Shoal Creek. Less than a mile down Shoal Creek is the grave of William Clark White, whose family first shows up there in the 1860 census, and who was murdered in a nasty robbery during the Civil War. There was some speculation that William C. & James M. White were related. After all, they lived so close and are buried so close. Not so, as we have proved just this week with DNA tests. No, we didn't dig up James and William. My wife's nephew Andy White of Fort Worth Texas descends in a direct male line from James M. White (1823-1888) of Giles Co Tenn. And we rounded up Ginny White Keefer's cousin Paul White of Nashville who represents the White family that William Clark White belongs to. They are not a match, not even close. Of course, it would have been nice as their family has their family tree traced to the generation before the Revolutionary War, including a Revolutionary War soldier who was father to William Clark White. But it does resolve the question beyond the shadow of a doubt. James M. & William Clark White of Shoal Creek are not related. There are a number of other WHITE families in Giles Co, and I would certainly be interested in getting them involved in our WHITE DNA project. It requires a male WHITE descendant. But even if you are not able to participate, you might find our DNA project of interest. Over time, we hope to map out some of the many WHITE family lines. It is a long term project with no instant results. But the above example of William C. & James White shows that DNA is a powerful tool when combined with other genealogical research. Ginny, in my database I have a Jane Elizabeth (aka LB or Libby) Jolly who married Richard H. Hall on 8-1-1864 in Lincoln Co., TN. This couple moved to Fannin Co., TX where they spent the rest of their lives. Jane died 9-18-1885 and is buried in the Deal Cemetery, Fannin Co., TX. Richard (he'd remarried) died 8-28-1904 and is buried beside Jane. Richard and Jane had 8 kids, two of whom are my gg-aunts and uncles - their kids are double kin because two of their Hall sons married two Blanton sisters. I have an extensive file on the descendants of the descendants of the two Hall-Blanton families, which includes more than 50 or 60 obituaries. I also have a copy of the research records on the Richard Hall family that was researched and prepared by Dorothy Latimer, whose husband descends from this family line. That book includes information (including some oral interview data) on most of the children of Jane Jolly and Richard H. Hall. If you go to the Fannin Co., TX website you will find several obituaries (containing typos) that over the years I've submitted to that website. Ruth -----Original Message----- From: Virginia L. The area that would later become Scranton was only first settled by a tiny group of white settlers in 1769. More than likely in 1772, there was still no one available who could have married Thomas Gourley and Martha McNeely if in fact they were even in that location. Neither of their surnames appears in lists of the very small party of settlers in the first years of the townships. This raises an important question about the year and location of the Gourley's marriage. Also, if all of Thomas Gourley's children are accounted for, there would be a gap between a 1772 marriage and a firstborn son William b ca 1781. This would suggest a later marriage for Thomas and Martha. 2. Irene M. Griffey, Earliest TN Land Records and Earliest TN Land History [Baltimore, MD Genealogical Pub. Co., 2000, 504 pp] p. 205.
