Just heard of Elizabeth White's retirement and of course I want to add to the stories of her contribution to the Giles County Old Records Department as well as many of us living in different parts of the country. I live in Tularosa, New Mexico and Elizabeth has been such a great help in researching for information on my Waller, Miller and Simmons connections in Giles County. Clara Parker also has been a big help. Both are to be commended for their work in helping to preserve much of the history of Giles County. My husband and I visited the Old Records Department one time and was able to meet Elizabeth in person and it was so nice to put a face to a name. I was very proud to see a picture I had sent to Elizabeth of a Historical Marker in Delta County, Texas telling of the many families who had migrated from Giles County to this area of Texas. I was even able to help Elizabeth with some of her research one time. Members of a family she was doing research on had migrated to Tularosa and I was able to take pictures of the headstones in the local cemetery and send to her for her records. It was a good feeling having helped her just that little bit after all she had done for me. Know Elizabeth is going to be missed in the Old Records Department, but I certainly hope she enjoys her retirement and spends her days doing exactly what she wants to do. She has earned it! ENJOY!! Louise Parker Tularosa, New Mexico
My wife and I have done research in courthouses in Missouri, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky and Maryland, plus many state archives. None of the places treated us nicer or gave us more help than in Pulaski. The two ladies were helpful, cordial, and knowledgeable. When we first signed in I said to one of the ladies "I want to find information on my grandfather, he was John Wilson Johnson and I believe his first wife was a Jones (they had a son named Jones)". The lady promptly told me that his first wife was Rebecca Johnson and they were first cousins. They never hesitated as where to find a record that we requested and brought out useful records before we even asked for them.. I don't know whether it was Ms White or Ms. Parker but I am sure the ladies who were there were typical of all the people who worked on the third floor. Thank you, Ms. White and Ms. Parker. Congratulation on your retirement, Ms. White, enjoy. Bill Trott Pasadena, TX

Greetings List Members, I saw in the January 25 issue of the Pulaski Citizen that Mrs. Elizabeth White has retired from the Old Records Department at the Giles County Court House in Pulaski. Anyone who has done research in Giles County, TN, has run across Miss Elizabeth. I cannot begin to thank her enough for the 18+ years of service that she has given to the people of Giles County. She and Mrs. Clara Parker have been a "light in the wilderness" of our search for our ancestors. After so many years working on the third floor of the Court House, hot in the summer and probably very cool in winter, I wish her well in looking at the sky, sitting in the sun looking at the flowers and butterflies and enjoying the beauty of nature in Giles County. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: ROBERTSON/ROBERSON, Jones Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SeB.2ACE/726 Message Board Post: Henry Robertson/Roberson was born November 5, 1818 in Giles Co, TN. In 1838 he enlisted in the TN Vol Inf. Following his discharge, he lived for a while in Stewart Co, TN. By 1847, he was in Union Co Ar and married Elizabeth Ann Jones. They had 7 children together before he died unexpectedly in 1858. Only 5 of the children were listed in probate records, so the other 2 may have died at a young age. The family Bible lists complete names for all members of this family, but no locations. There is also no information on Henry's parents or siblings. Interesting to note that Henry served as and made the first few Bible entries as Rober-t-son and later changed the spelling to Roberson. His widow testified in her pension application that he came to believe that was the proper spelling for his name. Henry lived very near a James Roberson in Union County Arkansas who had also been in TN before AR, and he was b. in Brunswick, VA and was a veteran of the War of 1812. We do not know if they are kin, but it is possible, even likely. Any clues or information about this family are welcome. Thank you.
