    1. Re: [LCT] Crawford Lafayette White
    2. Virginia L. (Ginny) Keefer in LasVegas
    3. Hi Cindy, It is like I have been trying to say for a long time. My White family came from NC to LCT. At the beginning of the Civil War, they moved over to Giles Co TN. I have found several families intermarried with my White's that lived in both places. The Giles Co TN Marriage Book, on page 146 by Jean Cosby of Giles Co TN states that Elizabeth Willbanks married as his first wife, Lafayette White Dec 23, 1877, by William Smith, MG. He was born Crawford Lafayette White in Lincoln Co TN. Those two families no doubt knew each other well? It appears that he also married 2nd Mary Haskins age 13 of Petersburg, Dist 10 of Lincoln Co TN in Giles Co TN in 1860 census. Listed in above book on page 286 and performed by William Chambers, J.P. I am not positive but it appears this Mary was a dau. of Margaret Haskins age 50 born SC, children; Joseph 17, ** Mary 13 and Samuel 10. It anyone knows this to be wrong Haskins family, please advise me. Widow? Margaret Haskins lived at HH 1254 in 1860 census of Petersburg, LCT. At age 36, Mary could have married Lafayette as second wife with her having an unknown to me maiden name??? I also found a Mary Haskins in 1860 LCT Lynchburg, Dist. 1, living in HH 14 R. N. Burton age 45 , wife Octavia age 45 TN, and several of their children. It appears two families shared same household, Second was; Dr. D. Haskins age 60 VA, wife Elizabeth 44 KY, children all born KY were; Margaret 19, Nancy 16, Daniel 10 **Mary age 6 AND Polly White age 57 born Georgia in same household -but no mention of her connection or Dr. Haskin's connection. Maybe a boarding house?? Can anyone straighten me out on above Mary Haskin's?? I want to assign the correct Mary as wife of Lafayette White on 6 Nov 1883. Most of my William White [who died May 1833 LCT], married into LCT families. James [Bud] Monroe born Feb 12, 1844 LCT md Feb 17, 1867 Giles Co to Amanda Tennessee Warren Charlotte Isabel b Oct 21, 1845 LCT md Apr 11, 1867 Giles Co Robert D. Bullington Lewis b Dec 20, 1848 LCT md Sept 24, 1871 Giles Co to Mary Matilda Cole John Wesley b Jan 17,1850 LCT md 1st Julia Melvina Williams, md 2nd Elizabeth Adeline Hall, both in Giles Co William K. born Aug 22, 1852 LCT md Aug 2, 1874 Martha ___, LCT or Giles? Maiden name? George Washington b Dec 28, 1854 LCT md Emma Virginia Hester in Giles Co TN Crawford Lafayette b May 10, 1857 LCT md M. Elizabeth Williams and Mary Haskins, both Giles Co Martha Caledonia b Nov 20, 1860 LCT md Dec 20, 1877 Giles Co to George J. Watson Thomas Bailey b Nov 26, 1863 LCT md Dec 2, 1883 Giles Co to Frances Threat Jones [anyone with info on her?] William Clark [Babe] b Dec 26, 1864 Giles Co married Jan 6, 1889 Giles Co to Mary Alice Townsend.[ Babe was only child b Giles Co] I would appreciate any information on above families. I suspect William Clark White's first wife, Polly M. Nixon was a dau. of William Nixon of LCT. Anyone with any clues? [They had one dau. Elizabeth A. born Mary 1 1840 LCT, died Feb 19, 1899 Limestone Co AL. She married Robert Bullington of Limestone Co AL. Polly must have died in child birth or shortly after as Elizabeth K. Wilkerson , 2nd wife of Clark, raised her. Appreciate any help with my HUGE White family. Ginny Keefer nee White PS. I was born in Barnesville, Georgia- to Minor Hill Giles Co White's and Iron City, Lawrence Co TN & Lauderdale Co AL LeMay's- but taken to Michigan at 6 months of age. I never knew my Southern first cousins or aunts and uncles. I have had to work hard to find information or anyone to help me locate my families- my parents died young, 47 and 66 years old. I miss not hearing the families stories at the nightly fireside chats that most families had -in my early life.

    3. Hey Listers, need a bit of help please. Any have a Giles Co Marriage Book? If so, could you please see if you find a marriage for Crawford Lafayette White to M. Elizabeth Williams Dec 23, 1877. Anyone who knows anything about Crawford, please tell me. I am trying to resolve a problem as to his death date and place. When his father, William Clark White's estate was being settled by his eldest son, James Monroe White, in 1892 James sent a note to Crawford's widow saying 'Dear Sis' sent to Adamsville, McNairy Co TN, regarding her share. I am also told Crawford died 1876 perhaps in TX or lived there at one point. Of course that date is before I am told he died in the date I am told of 1876? Lots of confusion for me regarding him. For his children I have; Martha C. White married Frank Moore Willie White Crawford Jr md Nov , 2883 Giles Co to Mary Haskins Can anyone add to and/or correct my information please? 1. Hastings - looking researcher for black Hastings families
    2. Not long ago a descendant of a former slave, Daniel Hastings and his wife Carolyn Hastings was monitoring the Giles County message boards. She got my email address from that board and wrote asking me if I'd found in the deed of sale for her Dan. At the time I didn't know I possessed that particular Bill of Sale. I just found it among all the Hastings documents I've collected. Whoever it was that contacted me, please write me again. I've lost your email address. It is likely that Daniel's parents and/or siblings went to Mississippi with the Zachariah Hastings who married Lilly Phillips - see bill of sale below. When I was researching Zach's descendant's I learned that upon learning they'd been emancipated one their former slaves and his wife refused to leave. That couple (apparently about Zack and Lilly's ages) lived on Zack's farm until their deaths. It is possible that couple may have been Daniel's parents. One of their descendants was featured on the Today program back in the late 1970's or early 1980's when she celebrated her hundredth birthday. Perhaps that lady's family can tell you something about their family traditions that might help you identify Daniel's parents. Ruth A. Z. 3. In today's issue of Review-Journal , a morning newspaper of Las Vegas, NV, there is a large colored picture of a local man who appears to be of black heritage but is almost white. He has a state medical marijuana license to allow him to purchase and use it as a cancer and stroke victim. He appears to be about 65-70 years old. His name is Warren Briscoe. It does my heart good to see that a mother in this century used those combinations to name her son. She obviously was aware of their heritage and proud of it.
