I have an Edward Long born 1810 in Alabama, since ALabama was not a state until 1819 he may have been born in the area along the TN/AL border. Edward married an Alcey born 1814 in TN and thier children were born in TN until about 1844. I have been unable to find this family prior to the 1850 Texas census. Thanks Erny Long
I am looking for any information on the family of W. M. ISBEL/ISBELL who were in Giles co. TN 1873 to ca. 1900. His wife Sarah (Cryer) Isbell was on the Giles Co. 1880 census with son, George age 1. She was listed as "married" but W.M. was not listed with her. Believe he may have died about 1893, as this family is found in 1900 in Stephens Co. Okla. Surnames: Reed Knight Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SeB.2ACE/786 Message Board Post: I am having a tough time finding out much about my Great Grandfather, John Robert Reed (1870-1938). His trail in Texas is substantial, but in the census records he always lists his birthplace as Limestone County, Alabama. His wife, Ida Mae Knight (1877-1929) lists her birthplace as Giles County, Tenn. While there are many seemingly close-call Reeds in Limestone and Giles Counties, there is no real proof of anything. I am believing at this point that he was an orphan, probably living with another family or relative. I am hoping that the marriage record will provide me some paths to follow. Their first child is born circa 1896. I do not know when they married. He never confided his history to anyone, possibly because of hurt or anger. Thanks for your help.
What's New Updates for August 3, 2005: The following new items are now available on the Giles County web site: Generation Charts submitted by Mary Ellen Ledford. Mary Ellen Crabb. William P. Crabb. James Moore Crabb. Generation Chart of Henry G. Rainey. Submitted by Marynell Bryant. Generation Chart of James Franklin Thomas. Submitted by Jim Thomas. This chart was submitted some time back, but had not been listed. Many thanks to Mary Ellen, Marynell, and Jim for their contributions to and their interest in the Giles County web site. You will notice that the Mary Ellen Crabb and the James Franklin Thomas charts are in the form of ascendancy charts. I do not recommend that the Generation Charts be presented in this form. They are actually images rather like a photograph; therefore, the search engines cannot find the various names within the image. The search engines can find the main name from the listing in the What's New listing and the Charts Index, but that is all. Some names on these particular charts will be found in other files on the Giles County Site. Please click on the "What's New" button on the Giles County home page (address below) for links to the above new pages. Regards, Anna Jackson CC Giles County http://www.rootsweb.com/~tngiles/

I have quite a bit of info, Census images pictures of the site in Tarpley's shop where he is buried. He was a Captain in the Confederate army. My brother has a picture of him in his uniform. My Maternal Grandmother was raised by his widow, as her mother died shortly after she was born. If this sounds like a match, you can e-mail me and I can send along anything that me be helpful to further your research. Does the attached file sound/look familiar (pun intended). Capt. David L. Nowlin is the second name on the memorial stone. I have the transcript of the engraving somewhere, if I can find it. Dan Bourdess [email protected] (Home) [email protected] (Work)
There was a message about any one who thought their ancestor received a KY military land warrant for Rev War service could go to a site and check for information. What exactly is the web site address to do this as I have several names I would like to check. I am not sure how to access this site. Joyce Phillips
Any who think their ancestor received a KY military land warrant for Rev War service, can type his name on this site to see if an actual land warrant copy comes up. Remember to type LAST name first, comma, first name. So many came to TN after living in KY.
