The booklet was privately typed a long time ago. It is not available that I know of. I hand typed all of the pages in the booklet. I lost my place and the numbering is off but ALL the pages are there. If you want a copy of the original land grant, NC lost them but Secretary of State in TN capital can send you one. Not your local secretary of state. Send them the county, date, number and name of the grant you are interested in. I have no idea what they charge. Perhaps they are on line to inquire? If someone calls for their phone number and/or address and fee, please post it to save others contacting that office asking too. I have no additional information. I think this list is valuable. I believe Anna Jackson has this list on TNGILES rootsweb too. ginnykeefer@cox.net

To use Topozone to find a cemetery in any state. Go to. _www.topozone.com_ (http://www.topozone.com/) then select view maps from the brown menu bar near the top of the page. That will give you a state selection. From there follow the link to the State. _http://www.topozone.com/viewmaps.asp_ (http://www.topozone.com/viewmaps.asp) From there follow the link to the county of your choice. In this instance this is for Marshall County _http://www.topozone.com/states/Tennessee.asp?county=Marshall_ (http://www.topozone.com/states/Tennessee.asp?county=Marshall) Next select the geographical feature you are interested in, which in this case is Cemetery. Click on that and the cemetery listing will appear for you to browse. (that list of all geographical assets in itself is another historical treasure. These old topographical maps were typically drawn up in the 1950s and most of them still have the house & building placements for homes then.) Next scroll down the page until you find the alpha listing of the cemetery you are interested in and click on that. That will bring up a small topographical map that will have a red cross placed on it at the longitude and latitude of the cemetery. You may not know from there where you are? If not then check the box from Small (of the selection Small/Medium/Large) to Large to cause the map to print large enough for you to see more of the map names of the roads. When that prints out if you are still not clear as to how to get to this place drop down the "view scale" box and select size 200,000 scale. If you are still confused as to where you are then repeat the process and go to a larger scale of 500,000. By then maybe you can see Nashville and major roads that will allow you to see the nearest road to your cemetery. Notice your cemetery is still placed with the red cross no matter how large the scale of the map. Another site that allows this kind of investigation if Epodunk.com. Their maps are road maps and you can get a different perspective there. Both of these sites use GSIS mapping service to place the cemetery locations on the maps. The map was compiled by D.G. Beers & Co. The TSLA website says "Between 1871 and 1907, the Beers Co. of Philadelphia did a series of maps of Tennessee counties showing landowners' names and the approximate location of their farms. These maps are available for Bedford, Davidson, Gibson, Giles, Hamilton, Haywood, Knox, Madison, Marshall, Maury, Montgomery, Rutherford, Shelby, Sumner, Williamson, and Wilson Counties." In reply to my email to TSLA (reference.tsla@state.tn.us), they responded: "The 1878 Beers map of Giles County is Map #1051 in our collection. It consists of six separate sections. The fee for reproduction of these sections is $5.00 per shot. The total fee would be $30.00. If you wish to order a copy, send a check or money order for that amount (payable to TSLA) and mail your request to Tennessee State Library and Archives, ATTN: Manuscripts Section, 403 Seventh Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37243-0312." Less than a week after sending my check, I received the six 18"x24" sheets (i.e., the overall map is 3'x 6'). The repro quality is just fair but you can clearly read landowner names overlaid on the map showing roads, etc. of that era. It took a little bit of work with a topo map to get my bearings but the map(s) is a great resource. I'll send a follow-up that describes each sheet by civil districts covered in case you want to purchase only the area where your ancestors lived. I know she married a Mr. Horn about 1827 or 1828 in Lawrence Co., Giles Co.,TN or Lauderdale Co., AL area. They had a daughter Martha Ann, my ggg grandmother, in1829 born in AL and a son, George, also born in AL in 1831. Mr. Horn died around 1831-1832. We can not find the first name of Margaret Criswell Horn's husband. We do know for sure that Margaret's parents were Samuel Criswell and Patience Sealy Criswell who lived in Giles Co.,TN. Samuel Criswell died in 1824 and Patience died later. I believe Mr. Horn's parents were William Horn who died around 1814 or 1815 in Giles Co., TN and Nancy Horn who died in Lawrence Co., TN in 1833. Around 1834 Margaret Horn and her 2 children, Martha Ann and George, moved to IL to live with her brother. If anyone knows any information on these families or knows who this Mr. Horn was I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. For those who are beginning their research, they might be interested in checking out this source for our early ancestors. There are three volumes. Click on each one and scroll to the bottom for the index to check if your name of choice is listed in that volume. This is a huge site and needs to be saved. To much to absorb at one sitting. The area covered is called Augusta Co and mainly Scottish/Irish ancestors in Virginia. At one time, Augusta covered a huge area so don't be discouraged if you do not recognize that county for your own search. Happy hunting. Ginny http://www.rootsweb.com/~chalkley/
