    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: bryant powell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ReB.2ACE/316.156.706.733.747.882.1.1.1 Message Board Post: No, I don't know anything about John Powell's wife or other children. His daughter Mary applied for a widow's pension when her husband Hezekiah Bryant died in 1850 before receiving the pension he had been granted. Her application states that she was married to Hezekiah Bryan, at the house of John Powell, her father in the county of Mecklenberg State of North Carollina by the reverend Mr. Neuseman, a clergyman and that she was not married by license but by publication of banns which publication was made at Haynes Meeting Grounds in said County, and that she knows of no person now living by whom she can now prove her said marriage. She states that she was not married to him prior to his leaving the service, but that the marriage took place previous to the first day of January of 1800 or 1794, at the time above stated. (Elsewhere I find a marriage date of September 24, 1785.) Mary states further that she raised eight sons and daughters during the lifetime of her husband, the oldest of whom Elizabeth Carleton is now sixty-three years old and a resident of Marshall County, state of Tennessee, who is the oldest person now living who has known the declarant other than the late husband that length of time. Her statement is witnessed by John Brian and Margaret A. R. Briant. (John is her son, and Margaret A. R. Briant is her granddaughter.) In 1850, Mary is living with her son John P. Briant in Bedford County, Tennessee. She is 86 years old. Others in the household include John P. Briant; 49; Frances 53; Mary 21; Nancy E, 20; Benjamin H. 18; John W. 17; Margaret Ann, 15; Martha A, 12. Because of census listings, etc. I believe some of John Powell's siblings may have been David, Abel, and Mary Jane. Mary Jane, b. 1756, married a William C. Pyron. Please let me know if you have any further information about any of these folks. Yours, Sandra
