It starts with the information about "my" STUBBLEFIELD family, who were found in the 1850 Gibson Co., TN census: We find Nancy Stubblefield's two older sons (William & John) still in Gibson County, TN in the 1860 census, so they did not make the trek to CA with the rest of the Stubblefield family: This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Pages 338a - 348b CENSUS YR: 1860 TERRITORY: TN COUNTY: Gibson DIVISION: District No. 14 PAGE NO: 338a REFERENCE: P.O. STUBBLEFIELD b: 25 Mar 1870 in Hopkins Co., Sulpher Bluff,TX The connection to a Pate family is where (see above family) BETHENIA / BETTIE STUBBLEFIELD b:1865 d: 22 July 1939 married 24 Aug 1882 in Franklin Co., TX to Nash Willoughby PATE b: 15 Aug 1860 Holmes Co., MS D: 25 Aug 1937 TX (his parents: Noah Pate b: c.1842 m: 28 Jul 1859 Richmond Co., NC to Mary Jane Covington b: c.1843?........both Noah Pate and Mary Covington were from Richmond County, NC) P.S. Mary Jane Covington Pate married James Craton Carroll (son of John Wesley Carroll and Hulda Hearne) on 8/10/1865, so it would seem that Nash Willoughby Pate was the only child by Jane's 1st husband , and Nash's father Noah W. Pate was probably killed in the Civil War serving CSA duty in Mississippi after the 1860 census and before the above marriage for M.J. Covington Pate. I have information on the children from Mary Jane Covington Pate-Carroll's last marriage.
