This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Boon, Boone Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ReB.2ACE/1810.2.2.2.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Linda, Today, I just saw, for the first time, your post about your great grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Boone, and his Civil War service. I'd like to thank you for posting this. I had been trying to find, for about 3 years, now, more information about the soldier listed on the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System as J. T. Boon/Alternate name, T. J. Boon. My gg grandfather was John T Boon/Boone, b. c1820, N. C., a shoe and bootmaker. He appeared in Weakley Co., TN (neighbor to Gibson Co.) records by 1842, and I've never been able to connect him with any of the Boon/Boone families in surrounding counties. I can't find his parents or siblings anywhere. He also disappeared from census after the 1860 Weakley Co. TN Census, and his last child was born in 1862. This made me suspect that it was possible he'd been conscripted into service in the Civil War at a fairly late age for conscription?(early 40's)possibly because of his occupation (shoe and bootmaker) and perhaps had been ki! lled in action. Your post confirmed for me that the soldier, J. T./T.J. Boon was your g grandfather and not my John T. Boon/Boone. I'm back at square one, but really appreciate the information. Thanks so much. Brenda
