    1. Re: Civil districts of 1850 census
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Dungan, James Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ReB.2ACE/2828.2 Message Board Post: The Gibson county web site has a Census District map at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tngibson/districts.htm The districts changed over time so it is hard to say what they were in 1850. You can generally assume that the earlier districts were larger than the map indicates. I don't know of any towns that were in Dist.2. Some people living south of the town of Gibson are listed in District 2 in some years, as well as people living on the East side of Humboldt. For example, in the 1920 and 1930 Census Dist.2 seems to go all the way to the south side of the town of Gibson. I have found my relatives/ancestors who live in and around the town of Gibson in Districts 2, 3, and 18. Also look at the maps at the following: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tngibson/Maps/maps.htm Good Luck, Mike Smith
