Hello All, Being new to this particular list, I thought I would sort of introduce myself. My name is Pamela HOLMES Serda, and I'm researching my fathers family. My gg-grandfather, William F. HOLMES, was born 1836 in TN. I don't know where at in TN. I have located a particular HOLMES family on the Gibson Co., Dist. 08 census, that is very interesting, to say the least. There are a lot of similarities, etc. I'm trying to determine if this family would be the parents of my gg-grandfather. He showed up in Texas in 1857, at the age of 21, married in 1858, remained in TX, and joined the army in 1862. After returning from the war, he remained in TX. All of the documents I can locate, state that he was definitely born in TN, but do not state which county, or names of parents. As far as I know, he had no family prior to coming to TX. If anyone has any info, especially about the family I mentioned, any insight would be most appreciated. 1850 Gibson Co., Dist. 08 census: house # 1371, line #4 thru 14, page. #223a Robert HOLMES, 42 M Tailor, born in GA Polly " , 36 F born in AL James " , 18 M Farmer, born in TN Robert " , 17 M born in TN William " , 14 M born in TN Martha " , 12 F born in TN Nancy " , 08 F born in TN Sarah " , 06 F born in TN Jennimin (sp?) " , 02 F born in TN *James Crunk, , 26 M Farmer born in TN *Molly Caps, , 36 F B born in NC *The son, William, matches perfectly with my gg-granfathers age. And, he does not show on the 1860 census. All of the names in this family, have also been repeated numerous times in my HOLMES family line.
