Does anyone have any information on the Grayar family. My great grandfather was James Grayar Wells. In the 1870's he was the editor of the Trenton News. His father was Jesse Iverson Wells who ran a foundry in Trenton. His mother was Sarah Meriwether Grayar. I have been able to find almost no information at all about the Grayar family. Sarah's parents were probably James Grayar and Charlotte Hassel. But that is all I have. The name may have been spelled several ways. Our family bible (originally the Bible of the wife of James Grayar Wells, Mary Ada Currey Wells) has it spelled Grayar and Grayer. Another possible spelling may have been Greer??? If anyone has any clues regarding the Grayar or the Hassel family I would appreciate the help. The family Bible also had several funeral notices pressed in its pages these include: * Mrs. Emma M. Grigsby. Services at the Presbyterian Church, Trenton, Tenn., by the Rev. J. T. Rothrock, June, 8, 1880 * Willie Myers and infant son of Prof. J. C. Myers at the residence of Mrs. A. E. Brown by the Rev. J. W. Anderson, Trenton, Tenn., August 6, 1879 * Mrs. John W. Cox at the Episcopal Church, Trenton, Tenn. By the Rev. C.F. Collins, January 16, 1890 * Infant son of A. G. and Nannie McDearmon by Rev. J. M. Scott, August 3, 1877. * Irma Howard daughter of Mr. And Mrs. S. H. Howard. Services by the Rev. Joseph R. Gray, January 3, 1878. * Mrs. Maybelle Hays wife of R. C. Hayes. Services by Rev. David Leith, January 20, 1889, Trenton, Tenn. * Robert I. Chester at the First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Hu. Calvin Smith, Brownsville, Tenn.
