I am sending this to the list in honor of a cousin of mine who died in Feb. 1995 of cancer pretty suddenly. She studied genealogy and because of some of her research, I have had an easy road to go on my Henley Family Research. She and my grandmother, Sara Henley McCartney, were first cousins, but were more like best friends. My aunt Betty Henley Vestal wrote this poem to honor Fran in August after her February death. We lay some violets at her head, And roses at her feet, Their blossoms seemed to comfort us As she lay there asleep. The sun was shining bright that day, And the sky was bright and blue, The birds were singing in the trees, And the wind blew softly too. I could almost hear her talking, And her laugh so full of gladness, She is lying in the sunshine, There is no room for sadness. I feel her spirit close to me, And I see that lovely smile, I remember all the good times, And it comforts me awhile. The bond that was between us Was more from love than kin, I remember what she gave us And not what might have been. Deep inside I know she's gone, She's in her resting place. But memories will never die, Nor will her pretty face. Remember, when the grief hits hard, And grieve for her you will Your mom will never leave you, Her love surrounds you still. She was proud of you, her daughters, And proud of Pete, her man. We all were part of her big heart, And we really loved our Fran. Frances Alene Henley Boyers was born in 1932, the oldest child of Hammond Henley and Mary Ella Holmes Henley. She married James Bennett "Pete" Boyers and they had I believe three daughters. I just wanted to do this to her memory. I was only 11 when she died, and had not started genealogy yet. Thank all of you for reading this.
