THE COURIER-CHRONICLE VOLUME XXII No.14 HUMBOLDT,TENNTSSEE FRIDAY 2nd APRIL ,1920 .___________________________________________________________________. ---LOCAL NEWS---Mr.F.E.WATSON died at the home of Mr.& Mrs.R.R.BOONE on Wednesday,March 24th, after a short illness.He was 86 years of age. The remains were taken to Rutherford for interment.He is survived by a daughter, Mrs.BOONE,and a son,Aubrey WATSON,of Memphis. ---LIVE NEWS NOTES FROM FRUITLAND---Mr.M.M.STEWART attended the funeral of Mr.Sam WADDELL at Jackson on Monday. ---PASSES TO REWARD---Many Humboldt friends were grieved when they learned that Mr.Sam D. WADDILL(2 sp.),former merchant and citizen of Humboldt had died Sunday at his home in Jackson.He was a brother of Mrs.Bettie HALE and an uncle of Mr.J.J.HALE,of this city. He was 73 years of age and is survived by his wife; daughters, Mrs.Will HOLLY and Mrs.Leon WILLIAMSON,both of Jackson; sister, Mrs.Elizabeth HALE of this place.Funeral services at family home on Royal Street,burial in Hollywood Cemetery,Jackson. ---CROCKETT COUNTY NEWS FROM ALAMO---Mr.& Mrs. S.E.JOHNSON, Mrs.David DODSON & son,John, Mrs.Oscar HOWELL, Mr.& Mrs.J.B.McCUTCHEN, Mesdames Cora JERMAN and R.L.THOMPSON attended the funeral of Mr.John A.CRAIG,near Friendship on Monday.Mr. CRAIG died at the home of his daughter,Mrs.Ollie GARRETT, at Bells Saturday night,after two weeks illness of pneumonia. ---BELLS,RFD #3---Eugene PERMENTER has several cases of measles in his home. ---IN MEMORY---Mrs.Bessie D.ESTES CLAYBROOK,daughter of Mr.& Mrs.B.F.ESTES, was born near Humboldt, January 28th, 1892, and died at her home near Milan March 23rd,1920;age;28 years, one month, 24 days.She married Grover CLAYBROOK November 21st,1915,with whom she spent four happy years.To them were born a little girl,now two years old.Funeral services at and she was laid to rest at Milan Cemetery.She leaves her husband; little daughter,Dorris; parents; her sister, Miss Nannie Sue and her brother,Harris Estes. ---ITEMS OF INTEREST FROM GADSDEN---Mrs.Garvin DAVIS,we are sorry to learn, is not able to be up,after a serious attack of influenza. The many friends of Mr.& Mrs.C.J.FORD sincerely sympathize with them in the death of their first born,a precious baby girl,which sad event occurred last Thursday.Mrs.FORD has been critically ill,but is somewhat improved. Last report from John H.REEVES is that he is able to sit up and walk about the place,but sad to relate,his mentality has not yet recovered from the severe shock. On last Sunday,Mr. Wilson WILLIAMS celebrated his 90th birthday.There were a host of relatives and friends; four children; 35 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and one great great grand nephew.His children present were;N.V.WILLIAMS of Fruitvale, Mrs.Minnie HERNDON of Humboldt, Mrs.Frannie IVEY of Huntersville and Mrs. Bettie WOODSON,near home. Two sons were absent;Ben Allen WILLIAMS,of Texas and Babe WILLIAMS of Mississippi. ---LOCAL HAPPENINGS IN AND ABOUT TOWN---Lloyd HAWKS had the misfortune of having his arm broken last Monday while cranking a Ford truck. Mr.Taylor HAYWOOD,who with his family,has been living at Aberdeen,Miss.,for the past three years,returned to Humboldt to make this his future home. ---SOCIETY---Mr.& Mrs.A.H.SENTER announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter,Mary Augusta, to Mr.Francis Marion HENDERSON, of Bells,TN.,to take place in April. Mrs.Elizabeth HALE and Mr.& Mrs.John HALE were called to Jackson Sunday on account of the death of their brother and uncle, S.E.WADDELL. Mary Adelaide McKNIGHT,little daughter of Mr.& Mrs.L.R.McKNIGHT,who has been seriously sick with measles and pneumonia is improving. ---INTERESTING NEWS FROM GIBSON---Mrs.Sallie FOUST,age 82 years,wife of the late William FOUST,died at her home here Saturday night.She leaves the following children: H.J., J.F., Jake, E.E., J.K., H.C., and W.H. FOUST, Mrs.W.O.MEREDITH,of Milan and Mrs.Gordon MANLEY,of Gibson.Funeral services and burial at Double Springs. The remains of Steven MILLER were brought here for burial last Friday.He formerly lived in this community.He was about 70 years of age and lived near Trenton.
