THE COURIER-CHRONICLE FRIDAY VOLUME XXII No.19 HUMBOLDT,TENNESSEE MAY 7th ,1920 ._______________________________________________________________. ---LOCAL NEWS---The remains of Lucy Bell GUNN were brought here Saturday evening and was taken to the residence of Mr.& Mrs.Oscar BARKSDALE.Services were held Sunday ayternoon at the Baptist Church,interment in Oakland Cemetery.she was the 14- year-old daughter of Mr.& Mrs.Will GUNN,formerly of this city.She is survived by her parents; five sisters; and two brothers. Dave NEILSON died at the home of his sister,Mrs.Addie WASHBURN, Saturday morning,after several weeks illness.Funeral services were conducted Sunday at Oakland Cemetery. He is surviced by his sister; several grandchildren and a number of children. ---IN MEMORY OF MRS.JOSEPHINE BLAIR---In loving remembrance of our dear wife and mother,who left us one year ago,April 28th,1919. Husband & Children. ---BELLS, RFD #3---Memorial services were held Sunday afternoon in District #1 for J.L.BICKERSTAFF. ---COXVILLE, RFD #10,CROCKETT COUNTY---The fact that Mr.& Mrs.John BUCKNER,Jr.,of near Pomona,have a fine new girl in their home,was made known to us a few days ago. ---THE DEAD---Mr.William L.BROOM died at the family home on Fort Hill Sunday afternoon,May 2nd,at 2 o’clock,after an illness of several weeks.The remains were laid to rest in Rose Hill Cemetery Monday afternoon,after a funeral service at the home.He was 55 years of age,is survived by his wife; sons, James, Willian, and Marion Penn; his father, J.M.,of Clarksville; brothers, A.B.,of Memphis, P.J.,of Clarksville, S.M.,of Palmyra, and James J.,of Hackberry; sisters, Mrs.C.J.STANTON,of Clarksville, Mrs.CLOYS,of Harris Station, and Miss Tinnie BROOM,of Hackberry. Mrs.Annie GRAVES,wife of the late Gus GRAVES,died at the home of her daughter,Mrs.E.SANFORD,three miles east of Humboldt,Friday,April 29th at 11 p.m.,after a years’illness.She was 65 years old.The remains were laid to rest in Zion Cemetery.Deceased is survived by the following children: Mrs.Warren JONES and Fred GRAVES,both of Humboldt; Mrs.C.H.WEAVER of Newbern; Messers.Will, Maurice, and Tal GRAVES, and Mesdames C.A.LEWIS, H.PEEK, and E.SANFORD,all east of Humboldt. ---LOCAL HAPPINGS IN AND ABOUT TOWN---Mrs.Mattie D.BURNETT had a very painful misfortune Monday to break her arm.She was attempting to unfasten a window,when she fell,sustaining a severe fracture. Mr.D.G.STEWART,who recently went to the Baptist Hospital in Memphis for a second and most serious operation,has improved sufficiently,we are glad to learn,for his son,D.E.STEWART,of Jackson,to bring him home. The remains of Mrs.Lillian JACKSON MOSS were brought here from Jackson Sunday and buried in Rose Hill Cemetery.Deceased was a daughter of the late Em JACKSON and the wife of Will MOSS.She was 30 years of age and is survived by her husband; her mother,Mrs.Oliver WILSON; also her grandfather,Mr.Hale JACKSON; and aunt, Mrs.J.B.CULLEN. On her mother’s side,Mrs.MOSS was related to Dr.W.H.MASON and Mr.John MASON,of this city. ---ITEMS OF INTEREST FROM GADSDEN---Mrs.Oscar PATTERSON,of #1,died very suddenly last Saturday.Her remains were given sepulture in Salem Cemetery,Sunday afternoon. ---EDISON NEWS ITEMS OF INTEREST---Miss Mattie ARNOLD was called from Memphis Saturday on account of the serious condition of her brother,Mr.BLAKE. Miss Sallie BETT and Della McDOUGAL visited their sister,Mrs.T.KILZER,of Gibson vicinity,during the weekend. Dr.B.S.PENN made a professional call in our community Sunday,to see little Fay OAKLEY,who was threatened with blood poisoning caused from the scratch of a rusty nail. Mrs.Nancy KILZER,who was reported sick last week,is still very sick.Mrs.P.M.KILZER,of Jackson attended the bedside of Mrs.Nancy KILZER,a part of last week. ---SOCIETY---Mr.T.Q.WARMATH and Miss Irene RUSSELL were married at the home of the bride’s aunt and uncle,Mr.& Mrs.Wiley BLAKEMORE on Tuesday night,May 4th. A quiet wedding was solemnized Friday evening at 8 o’clock at the Christian parsonage,when Miss Annie LADD became the bride of Mr.Garland NASH. She is the daughter of Mr.& Mrs.W.B.LADD; he is the son of Mr.& Mrs.E.P.NASH.
