THE COURIER-CHRONICLE FRIDAY VOLUME XXII No.21 HUMBOLDT,TENNESSEE MAY 21st,1920 .______________________________________________________________________. ---LOCAL NEWS---Louis (Lonnie) CAVANESS and RUBY SKILES were married last Sunday.He is a farmer in the Davidson Chapel community,the bride is the daughter of Mr.& Mrs.Kennie SKILES. ---DIES IN HOSPITAL---H.J.DUFFEY,one of Humboldt’s old and well-known citizens died in the Baptist Hospital,Memphis,Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.,following an operation which occurred about one week ago.he is survived by his wife; five sons; Emerson, Wesley, James, all of Humboldt, Walter and George,of Brownsville; five daughters: Mrs.Eldon HAWKS and Misses Flora & Mamie DUFFEY, all of Humboldt,and Mrs.WADE and Mrs. ROSE, of Brazil.There are also several grandchildren.He was about 71 years of age,and lived the greater part of his life in Crockett County and here in Humboldt.Interment in Rose Hill Cemetery. ---PASSES TO REWARD---On Monday about 8:30 a.m.,Mr.W.H.McKNIGHT,Sr.,was called to his final reward.He was in his 84th year.He was surrounded by his family when death came. He is survived by his wife; four sons; James D., W.H.Jr., L.R., and M.S.;three daughters; Mrs.W.W.CRAIG,of Ripley, Mrs.Claude WILLIAMS and Mrs.Harry LOVE,of this city; also one stepdaughter,Mrs.C.M.HAMILTON.Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. He was a Confederate soldier. ---INTERESTING NEWS FROM GIBSON---Mr.& Mrs.L.C.JONES were called to Dyer Tuesday to the bedside of their brother-in-law,Mr.HOLLAND,who is dangerously sick. On Sunday afternoon,May 16th, at the Methodist parsonage in Gibson,Tenn.,John Aubrey DUNLAP and Nana LUCKEY were married.He is the son of Mr.& Mrs.John DUNLAP,of near Trezevant,Tenn.,and she is the daughter of Mr.& Mrs.Sam LUCKEY,of near Gibson. ---CROCKETT COUNTY NEWS FROM ALAMO---Mr.George STEWART and Mrs.Gussie DUNLAP were married at the home of Bro.John FARROW on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. BORN to Mr.& Mrs.Bernard THOMAS on Friday,a fine boy. ---ITEMS OF INTEREST FROM GADSDEN---The friends of Mr.& Mrs.Eldridge THOMAS will regret to hear of their serious condition,a nevous breakdown on the part of each.All wish them a restoration to health. ---LOCAL NEWS HAPPENINGS IN AND ABOUT TOWN---Mr.B.HIMELHOCH will leave Sunday for New York,where he will embark for Lebo,Letjwa;his native country,on the Baltic Sea.He goes this long trip to meet his brother,who will return with him to the United States. ---WEEKS DOINGS OF MEDINA PEOPLE---Mesdames S.BIRDSONG & Wm.GOODRICH, of Spring Creek,have been attending the bedside of their sister,Mrs.W.J.BIRDSONG, who is ill. The marriage on Saturday evening of Miss Mary BLACK and Earl FLY came as a surprise to their many friends. The funeral service of Mrs.W.D.BORDON was conducted Tuesday afternoon at Hopewell.She is survived by her husband and five children. ---COXVILLE. R.F.D.#10; CROCKETT COUNTY---Mr.Dave COGBURN,formerly of this place,and who went to St.Louis a few days ago to make his home with his daughter, died last Friday morning.He was 92 years old and spent the greater part of his life in Gibson County. ---SOCIETY---Mr.Louis D.FORTNER,of Stanton,Tenn.,announces the engagement and approaching marriage of his daughter,Evadine,to Mr.Robert W.JAMES,the wedding to take place at the First Methodist Church in Humboldt on Wednesday,June 9th at high noon.
