FOSTER died at his home Tuesday at 3 a.m. after several weeks illness.Interment at Oakland Cemetery.He is survived by his wife and one daughter,Mrs.Harry JONES,of Memphis;one brother and two sisters to mourn his death. The remains of two of Gibson Countys soldier boys reached here Monday morning at 4 a.m. from England,where they died about two years ago,and were interred in Oakland Cemetery in this city after a brief service at the graves by Rev.JENKINS. These two young men gave their lives for their country,having joined the Army about two years ago and getting as far as England.Mr.NELSON is survived by his wife and little daughter,Mackie,under two years of age,and his parents.Mr.HANNAH is survived by two sisters,Misses Mattie & Lina Mai HANNA,of this city. Rev.W.A. POWEL and wife are the proud parents of a fine girl. Ike BLAKEMORE,a well-known colored man died last week.Also the wife of the colored preacher (Baptist) died here last Friday.These colored people had many friends among the white people of this city. Mr.& Mrs.Eldon TAYLOR are the proud parents of a fine boy,born Saturday. ---TRIMBLE,TENN.,Alvin BRYANTs little 7-year-old son,Farris,was accidently shot in the breast with a .22 calibre rifle in the hands of a playmate.He was rushed to a Dyersburg Hospital and operated on,the bullett was found in his back,it went almost thru him.At last report,he was resting well. ---NEWBERN,TENN.---The body of Dan SKAGGS,26,arrived here over the Illinois Central railroad Friday and was buried in the Senter Cemetery near town.Rev.C.E. HUTCHINSON,of Newbern Baptist Church,conducted the funeral.Young SKAGGS was the first Newbern boy to fall victim in France,February 28th,1918.He enlisted with the aviation corps in Dallas,Texas in 1917.The casket was draped with a large U.S. flag and the burial ceremonies were under the direction of a number of ex-servicemen.He is survived by his mother,Mrs.J.M. SKAGGS;four sisters,Mrs.Ella REED of Virginia; Mrs.Myra DOZIER,of Gibson County; Miss Mary SKAGGS and Mrs.Lex MILAM,both of Tatumville and one brother,James SKAGGS,of Eaton,Tenn. ---FRIENDSHIP---Mrs.Lawrence NEARN,of Floydsville community,south of this place,has received a telegram stating that the remains of her husband,a soldier of the World War,would arrive in New York in a few days and be brought to this county for burial.Mr.NEARN died of measles in London during the war. ---LEXINGTON, TENN.---Dan M. IRVIN, aged inmate of the Madison County poorhouse,visiting here,jumped headlong from the second story window of the Lexington Courthouse,a distance of some 15 feet,killing himself on the brick walk below.Just before his fatal plunge,Mr.IRVIN spoke to Charlie TIMBERLAKE,negro janitor.Dan IRVIN is said to have inherited two fortunes.He was born and reared in Madison County,and after living in Jackson for years,where he built a handsome home,moved to Lexington and bought the Clifton Street Corner,where he built a beautiful home.Several years ago,he and his wife separated. ---DIES SUDDENLY---Mrs.Mollie RUSSELL McGEE,widow of the late H.J.(Ted) McGEE,died in St.Joseph Hospital in Memphis Wednesday at 4 a.m.She is survived by son,Russell,of Memphis;and daughter,Mrs.Fred A. CUSHMAN,of Houston,Texas.she was reared in Humboldt and was married here to Ted McGEE about 28 years ago.After their marriage,they moved to Vicksburg,Miss.,after which they moved to Memphis.Mr.McGEE died but a short time ago,his remains were brought here for burial.Soon after her husbands death,she began making plans to return to her girlhood home but she did not live to carry out her dream.Interment will be beside her husband in Rose Hill Cemetery. ---LOCAL NEWS HAPPENINGS IN AND ABOUT TOWN---Mr.Jake STRASBERG left Saturday night for Syracuse,N.Y.,where he was called on account of the death of his brother,Julius STRASBERG. The remains of James Mack NELSON,son of Mr.& Mrs.Robert NELSON,arrived here Sunday from New York,and were carried to Trenton Monday morning and interred in Oakland Cemetery.Mr.NELSON died in France of pneumonia. ---ITEMS OF INTEREST FROM GADSDEN---Mrs.Denie YOUNG has gone to Fruitvale to spend the summar with her sister,Mrs.Robert GAGE. Mrs.T.Ann TAYLOR has returned from a visit in the home of Henry SIMS,at Jackson.She nursed Henrys two small sons through a seige of smallpox while there. Circuit Clerk I.N. LEMOND and wife of Alamo,were in this community Sunday and attended the funeral of Mr.THOMAS at Salem.Mr.& Mrs.Tom KENNER and Mrs.Pled PATTERSON attended the THOMAS funeral Sunday.Mr.& Mrs.G.E. TODD,of Bells,were attendants at the THOMAS funeral at Salem. Miss Bessie DUNLAP and Mr.Laudell WILLIAMS were married last Saturday in Jackson,and left immediately for their home in New Mexico.She is the daughter of J.K. DUNLAP.He,who has made good as a civil engineer in the West,is a son of W.P. WILLIAMS.He came home to help celebrate his fathers 81st birthday and decided he could take the backward journey alone. Mr.Eldridge THOMAS,a citizen of the Salem community,died Saturday morning,his remains interred Sunday at Salem Cemetery.He was 59 years of age,he will be greatly missed,especially by his afflicted wife. ---MILLIONAIRE VISITS OLD HOME---Friendship,Tenn.---J.C. HARDIN,of Burkburnett,Texas,is visiting relatives in the Friendship community.He was reared on a farm a few miles west of this place and went to Texas many years ago.The largest check drawn on the Wichita Falls First National Bank for income tax was drawn by Mr.HARDEN for $132,690.12,which was only a quarter payment.His entire income tax foe 1919 will be $530,760.45.Mr.HARDIN is a man of simple tastes and drove out in the country near here in a two-horse wagon,when he went to visit the scenes from his boyhood. ---HORACE ROGERS ROBERTS---is a man among men.What he has accomplished has been largely through his own energy and will power.He was born in Tennessee,not very far from where Old Hickory Jackson lived.He was reared on a farm,in Gibson County and knows all about hogs and hominey.when he was nearing manhood,he went to Nashville to start out in the battle of life.He married Miss Elizabeth FAIN,of Nashville and they have two fine children.(The Sun-Gainsville,Fla.) ---SOCIETY---Mr.& Mrs.T.N. NELSON announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter,Ora Neil,to Mr.Arthur V.GAISER,of Buffalo,N.Y.,on June 10th.
