I don't remember all the names of the roads but when you turn off Hwy 45 to go to Idlewild, there was a small road on the right just before you get to the railroad. This road was lined with small houses which faced the railroad. I know Nick and Bertha James lived at the other end of this row of houses. If you went across the railroad, the road curved to the right and went in front of the store and post office. They also faced the railroad. If you turn left just before you reach the stores, that is Idlewild Hollyleaf Rd. This road goes by Idlewild Baptist Church & Pounds Cemetery. Also on this road is Powell Cemetery and Harmony Primitive Baptist Church and cemetery. My grandmother told me that she grew up across the road from Harmony Church and they would walk to Idlewild on Saturdays and catch the train to Bradford and spend the day and then come back.
There were no P.H.S. school yearbooks in the 1940s except 1947. They lost money on it and didn't have another one until 1966, but most libraries find it hard to keep them due to theft. ----- Original Message ----- From: "J Carter" <joecfuss@hotmail.com> To: <TNGIBSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 23, 2005 5:01 PM Subject: [Tngibson] School Yearbooks > Can anyone tell me if the library in Trenton has copies of school > yearbooks from the 40's? > Thanks Joe > > > > ==== TNGIBSON Mailing List ==== > Gibson Co TN Genealogy Pages http://www.rootsweb.com/~tngibson/ > > > > -- > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG Free Edition. > Version: 7.1.361 / Virus Database: 267.12.4/146 - Release Date: 10/21/2005 > >

When Idlewild was first named Thetford was it named after that family? How did Reynolds Road get it's name? Sorry for all the questions, I have not been down that way since I talked to my dad 3 years ago and can not seem to get my hands on any books about the area.
Re Idlewile School, My ancestors, R C and Martha Crocker gave the land for the Mt. Pisgah Church and Cemetary in the 1870's. I assume this was on their land. There is a plaque on the front of the Mr. Pisgah Church listing this. I can not put my hands on my files about this right now but I have a copy of the deed from RC & Martha giving the land to the church. I also have a copy of the deed to one acre (I think) sold to the school board for the Mt. Pisgah School about the same time as the church. I think it must have been adjacent to the church but have not found a record of the place. I also have a copy of the deed where RC & Martha Crocker sold the railroad right-of-way to the Mississippi etc railroad about the same time, listing 100 feet right of way and totaled 3 or 4 acres, so must have gone across his farm there. It is only maybe a half mile from Mt. Pisgah church to the railroad there. I had found these in the Gibson County Court House in Trenton several years ago. My Dad said he was born in the Bradford-Idlewild area, have not been able to find the spot. They were at Fowlkes in Dyer County in the 1910 census, and that is where I was born. My anscestors: George Ethelbert Crocker, Thomas Fred Crocker, Thomas Monroe Crocker and Rufus Coleman Crocker, and Mark Crocker. Do you know the names of the roads or streets in the town and how it is set up. I was last there 20 years ago and remember my grandmother's house (Myrtle Thetford) with the railroad tracks right in front. I realize that there are probably no maps of the town but even a drawing of how it is layed out would be nice.
