Lydia still shows as living with daughter in later census records of Gibson Co. James Mathis 1810 is forgotten son of William T and Lydia. Other researchers have now recognized James. James and MaryCarter left Gibson by 1840 to LA then ARK where James died 1848. Youngest child Jesse was sent in 1850s back to Gibson where he states in a LETTER that he stayed with Jimmy Bell and got some schooling. What happened to widow of James is not know . Older kids moved around but were in Seb Co AR 1860's ..70........80's to 85 when they moved into OK Indian Territory. I don't know why Jesse lived with Bell as the Mathis clan were so prominent in Gibson, may have been from bad feelings from James being the only Mathis that left TN. thnx for contacting me. eliz2f@gcinet.net
