I thought at first that Lydia Carlton-Mathis might have married a Mr.Bell after her husband William T. Mathis died c.1847 in Gibson Co. TN. But the answer is that both Lydias are found in different 1850 Gibson Co TN Census ! 3. Mamie Lee was married to Ken Bolton and had, we believe, 4 children. Gladys Mae Bolton, Wade Lee Bolton, Joyce Bolton, and Rose Bolton. Ken and Mamie Lee divorced and Mamie Lee married a Hayney (?) and we think moved to Missouri. When Ken and Mamie Lee were married they lived in the Idlewild community in Gibson County. My grandfather was Erb Bolton, brother of Ken Bolton. 1. Re: [Tngibson] Obituary information
    2. You can visit the library in Trenton, TN, or the TN Archives in Nashville, and look up the obit yourself. You can request the newspaper through interlibrary loan, and look it up yourself at your local library (usually a charge of about $3.50) You can post the information on the mailing list and ask if there's a list member who can look it up. You can check RAOGK to see if there's a volunteer who can look it up (www.raogk.org). I've done all of these. 2. I probably will answer my own question. I talked with the courthouse at Trenton and they knew nothing about naturalization records. Called the Tennesse State Library and Archives in Nashville and the archivist told me the records would probably be located in "ordinary" court records at the courthouse. If anyone has any ideas, please post to the list. Mary June

You can generally assume that the earlier districts were larger than the map indicates. I don't know of any towns that were in Dist.2. Some people living south of the town of Gibson are listed in District 2 in some years, as well as people living on the East side of Humboldt. For example, in the 1920 and 1930 Census Dist.2 seems to go all the way to the south side of the town of Gibson. I have found my relatives/ancestors who live in and around the town of Gibson in Districts 2, 3, and 18. 3. Hi all, I am new to your list. My, last series of attempts to post here failed to go through. I am looking for volunteers who may have access to tax lists, index of wills or deed excerts/transcriptions to help locate some information on the following family. 1850 census - Tennessee, Gibson Co., Dist. 7 2159 Cannon, Thomas 60 M NC Cannon, Elizabeth 61 M NC Cannon, Lucy 23 F TN Cannon, James 20 M TN Bailey, Mary A. 28 F TN Bailey, Sabilla 7 F TN Leggett, Elizabeth 25 F TN Leggett, Joeseph 6 M TN 2160 Cannon, John 22 M TN Cannon, Elizabeth 21 F TN Cannon, Benjamin 2 M TN ------------------------ James age 20, "could be" my 2x gg James M. Cannon (b. May 1830 in TN d. 1904 in Ripley, Lauderdale Co., TN) who md. Nancy Chipman (1834-1920) in Jackson, Madison Co., TN on Apr 3, 1852. Family tradition says that James was "from" Jackson, TN. The above family is the only James in the general area of the correct age. However, My James states in later cencus that his parents were born in TN, where these folks were born in NC. I would like to attempt to find the time frame this family settled and was in the area, where they may have been prior to this census, and if this Thomas CANNON left a will.... ect... Thanks for any help in this matter. It will be greatly appreciated! Dave Long

    3. On the 1877 D. G. Beers and Co. map of Gibson County, District 2 is in between District 1 and District 3 and all three districts adjoin Madison County on their southern border. District 1 has the town of Medina not far from the eastern border of District 2, and District 3 has the town of Humboldt not far from the western border of District 2, but I could not locate any towns within District 1 itself. Since the map is dated 1877, there would be 27 years between the census of 1850 and the making of the map, and there might have been changes, but it gives you a starting point for research.
