Well, Folks, cemeteries provide a lot of information on family and can give us dates we need to put the pieces of our family history together. However, one of these cemeteries, Patterson, is in disrepair. Anyone slightly interested PLEASE contact me mccartneyad@hotmail.com. This cemetery has in it my great-great-great-great-grandfather, his second wife, my great-great-great-great-uncle and aunt, my great-great-grandmother's first cousin, and many more of my and Knott relatives. Adam P.S. Remember, we will all be in one someday. I think all of us want our final resting places to be in good shape. _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Visit http://www.msn.com
I think it must be the time of the year, graduation, end of the school year, vacation planning, etc. I own four surname mailing lists, and all are very slow right now. I am trying to think of ways to get some "pep" back into them. Myra Chambers P.S. The webpage is wonderful.
Vicki, every word of this letter is merited. You have done a MAGNIFICENT job on the Gibson County website. How much easier a genealogist's life would be if every county had done a comparable job. Thank you for the many, many hours you have put in to this work. I would also like to commend the subscribers to the Gibson County newsletter. Every time I have made much of a posting, I have not only received the help I need, but have made new friends in the process. This is the best genealogical site that I have found. One last question -- I have recently come across some photos of my Hunt ancestors in Gibson County. Are you including individual photos on the page? If so, where should they be sent? Again, congratulations on an exceptional job and praise well earned. Linda: Don't worry about that at all with the Digest form of the list. Rootsweb does NOT allow any attachments to messages. If you try and attach something, it won't even go thru. So you know that what you are receiving as an attachment is only a message sent to the Gibson Co. list. There is no danger in this. Vicki Gibson Co. I sent a message earlier, but I realized that I had just clicked Reply rather than Reply All. I was afraid that it might not get through to the main list, so I am sending it again. If two copies show up on the list, please forgive me for the inconvenience. This mailing comes to me as basically a blank e-mail with each query showing as a separate attachment. With all the viruses circulating, such as the Explore or zip virus that appeared this week, I am seeing numerous warnings not to open any attachments. Do you do anything special before sending out this message to make sure that it is virus-free? Of course, I don't know how I am going to see your answer since it will come as an attachment unless you e-mail me privately. This mailing comes to me basically as a blank e-mail with each query listed as a separate attachment. With all the news recently about the danger of opening attachments, especially with the Explore or zip virus that surfaced this week, I am reluctant to open this mail. Vicky, is anything done to ensure that this mailing is virus-free when it is sent out? Am I at risk if I open these entries? Of course, if you reply on the list, I will not see it if I am not opening attachments. You would need to reply to me personally. Thanks for your help. Hi, Does anyone have any information on Matthew Madison Smail (1870-1940) or Matilda Smail (1869-1937). They were living in the Eaton area when they died, both are buried in Old Mayfield Cemetery on the Bluff Road out of Eaton. They are my g-grandfather and g-grandmother. Their daughter (my grandmother) Bessie, married Tyva Williams. They also lived in the Eaton area around this time. Thanks in advance, Rick nce, Rick
Dear Rick and Joy Thank you for transcribing Poplar Springs Baptist Cemetery. It has helped to began the breaking down of one of my brick walls. It has also raised many questions. Like when you transcribed the cemetery were there family plots that were together? I'm interested in GREERS, DOYLES, MAYNARDS, AND JONES. Also is there still a Poplar Springs Baptist Church? And what district is it in and what town or towns is close by? I hope this isn't an overload of questions. Thanks a bunch! Becky jbalf@gwtc jbalf@gwtc

Ever wonder how so many folks could afford to move to California? I just read this in the newspaper today: Railroaders fought a rate war in the 1880s, and the price of a ticket from Kansas CIty to Los Angeles dropped to $1. The westbound trains filled up. Vicki
Roscoe Butler (son of John Q. A. and Louise Ella Sanders) from Gibson County married a 'beautiful black-haired girl' named Hester Hendrix. In the early 1900's I suppose. They farmed in Crockett County. Does anyone happen to have a Hester Hendrix in your family? My cousin, who lived with them during her high school years (mid 1940's), would be thrilled if I could find a a background for Hester.
Posted this to the Barger list yesterday. Posting to the Gibson and Weakley lists, hoping one of the Barger researchers recognizes my gggrandparents or their children. >>Hi All, It's Karla, the Unconnected Barger. (or "Karla, the Lonely Little Barger") I'm going to post my Barger information again for all the new members. Please contact me if anyone sounds familiar. Most of my information came from a very old family bible. Relationships weren't noted. I have confirmed parentage for most of the names listed from death certificates. 1. William S. BARGER was born in Beardstown, Perry Co., TN 3-Jan-1834. He married Martha Jane ATCHISON 17-Jun-1860, in Benton Co., TN. Martha was divorced from William Barger 9-Oct-1868. He married Sarah Melvina HAMBRICK Abernathey 22-Oct-1868 in Paducah, McCracken Co., KY. Sarah died 12-Jan-1941 in Paducah, McCracken Co., KY, at 95 years of age. Residence of Sarah at the time of her death was 121 So. 12th St., Paducah. Place and date of William's death are unknown at this time. William S. Barger and Martha Jane Atchison had the following children: 2. i. Mary Ann Barger was born in Paducah, McCracken Co., KY 5-May-1861. Mary Ann died 15-Mar-1899 at 37 years of age. 3. ii. Rebecca Susan Barger was born in Benton Co., TN 27-Aug-1863. Rebecca died 1-Oct-1868 in Paducah, McCracken Co., KY, at 5 years of age. (Note the date of little Rebecca's death and the divorce of her parents!) William S Barger and Sarah Melvina Hambrick had the following children: 4. iii. Cora Marina Barger (Warren) was born in Metropolis, Massac Co., Illinois 5-Oct-1869. She married Joseph Warren in 1890 in Gibson County. After Joe's death and after her children were grown, she married a man named "Mr. Christian." Probably in Weakley County. Cora died 4-Dec-1958 in Gibson Co., TN, at 89 years of age. She is buried in Poplar Springs Cemetery. 5. iv. James E. Barger was born in Polk Co., TN 14-Sep-1871. James died 12-May-1925 in Paducah, McCracken Co., KY, at 53 years of age. He is buried in Maplelawn Cemetery, Paducah, KY. At the time of his death, James was living at 1232 So. 7th St., Paducah, KY. Informant of his death was Mrs. Elizabeth Barger. Occupation given was machinist. 6. v. John Wesley Barger was born in POPE CO., ILL 16-Aug-1873. John died 5-Apr-1949 in Paducah, McCracken Co., KY, at 75 years of age. He is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Paducah, McCracken Co., KY. At the time of his death, John was living at 714 So. 9th St., Paducah, KY. Informant of his death was Mrs. Horace THOMPSON, daughter. Occupation given was retired laborer, ICRR Co. 7. vi. Milo V. Barger was born in Decatur, TN 22-Mar-1875. Milo died 19-Jun-1904 at 29 years of age. Milos birth and death are recorded in the Barger bible. Milo is buried in Poplar Springs Cemetery, Gibson Co., TN. 8. vii. William C. Barger was born in Carroll Co., TN 16-Aug-1878. My father's cousin remembers a Coleman Barger. Perhaps Williams middle name was Coleman. 9. viii. Martha Jane Barger was born in Gibson Co., TN 25-Nov-1880. Yes, I think its strange that William and Sarah would have named a child after Williams first wife, whom he divorced. (Because of this situation, I question Martha Janes relationship to the family. Perhaps she was the widow of Milo and stayed on with the Bargers after Milo died.) It is believed that Martha Jane married a man whose last name was WILKENS. 10. ix. Aaron Steve Barger was born in Gibson Co., TN 22-Jan-1883. Aaron died 22-Jan-1953 in Paducah, McCracken Co., KY, at 70 years of age. He is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Paducah, KY. He married Katie Unknown. At the time of his death, Steve was living at 12 C Elmwood Court, Paducah, KY. Informant of his death was Katie Barger, wife. Occupation given was retired painter. 11. x. Julie E. Barger was born in Gibson Co., TN 2-Apr-1886. A cousin belives Julie's husbands name was Tom HOFLICH and that Mabel Catherine Hoflich, b 5-Jan-1907 at 1024 Ohio St., Paducah, KY and d 9-Jun-1907, was their daughter?
Hi folks: Just wanted to share the message below with everyone who has helped to put Gibson County records online. I think we may have one of the best counties on the web for online documentation. I am looking for the familiy of the wife of Henderson Clark. Elizabeth Ann Pate, bn 1800 Tn was married to Henderson Clark in Madison, Ala in 1819. They lived in Dyer co, but close to the county line had lands in Gibson and several other counties as well. When Henderson Clark's (bn 1797, ky) will is probated in 1880s he still has land in Gibson. The male children are Charles P., Calvin H. and Thomas Henderson, the female are Sarah Ann, Nancy, Amanda Clay (mine). Henderson is the son of Jesse Clark Sr. and Nancy Williamson. his brother Jessee(unmarried) and widowed Mother also live in Dyer. (Wm. Azariah Dawson marries Amanda Clay Clark and Tom Cotton marries another of Henderson's daughters). I understand that there were Pates in Gibson. Can anyone tell me of these Pates? There are at least 15 to 20 Hopper families living in the Humboldt area at the present time.. You could probable find some addresses in the "White Pages". Some of them are probably your cousins. _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Visit http://www.msn.com
