    3. Greetings, Is anyone interested in going together for some digitized records? Since Eddy mentioned it on this list, I brought it up on the Rutherford County list and there seems to be a lot of interest there. I have several people who are interested in Gibson County information if I knew what type of records others are interested in. I think that this is a good opportunity for us to be able to get a few microfilmed records digitized and available at home. Let's here what type of interest that exists here in Gibson County. Harvey

    2. Nancy Wilson
    3. Hi Karla- I have reference to an Oakland Cemetary in Trenton. The citation is in the book "The Wades" by Zada Wade Beadles. There are a LOT of this family buried there. At a quick glance, the earliest date I see is for William E. Wade, buried in Oakland Cemetary, Trenton, in 1884. The most recent was Robert Guilford Wade buried there 1956. Other members of the family were buried at Zion Church in Brazil. Knowing what denomination Zion is might be a clue about Oakland. But Oakland was definitely there! Nancy Wade Wilson

    2. Thank you all for straightening me out regarding Oakwood and Oak Land Cemeteries. Oak Land is the one in Trenton and the reason it's not listed in long distance directory assistance is because it's maintained by the city. I called City Hall and received much, much more help than I ever expected. Gibson County people are the nicest I've ever spoken to. Thank you again Nancy, Milton, Jere, Alice, Charles and others. His daughter was Sarah (G.) E. Payne who married Preston Alford Knott. Both buried at Patterson Cemetery--so is Thirsey. 1. [TNGIBSON-L] Cemetery Question
    2. I have been told that John Quincy Adams "Tobe" BUTLER and his wife, Louise Ella (Louella) Sanders Butler, and other family members are buried in Oakland Cemetery in Gibson County. I can't find an Oakland Cemetery. It has been suggested that Oakwood Cemetery is the correct name. I called 901 information this morning and there is no cemetery by either name in Milan or Trenton. Can someone help me out? I did find an Oakwood Baptist Church (John Q. A. was a Baptist), but they aren't answering the phone so that I can ask if they are affiliated with a cemetery. Thank you for any help. Karla Butler Everett Bakersfield, CA

While his own career has been that of a hard working and successful Physician and Surgeon, since 1902 identified with the Batesburg Community; Doctor Timmerman comes of a family whose interests show a natural inclination to Politics and Public Affairs. He is the brother of Hon George Bell Timmerman of Lexington, present solicitor of the Eleventh Judicial Curcuit and who in the campaign of 1919 made a very close race for the Democratic Nomination for Congress. Doctor Timmerman was born at the Timmerman Community, named in honor of the family in Edgefield County near Phillipi Church in 1864, son of W H and Pauline (Asbill) Timmerman. The late Doctor Washington Hodges Timmerman, his father, who died in 1908, earned a place among South Carolina's most distinguished citizens. He was born in Historic Edgefield County, his home and plantation being at Timmerman. His birth occurred in 1832. His father was Ransom Timmerman, who married a member of the prominent Bledsoe family of English Ancestry. His grandfather was Jacob Timmerman who came from Germany and settled in Edgefield County about 1770. Washington H Timmerman graduated in Medicine at the Charleston Medical College in 1854. In December, 1861, he left his profession to become Second Lieutenant of Company K, Seventeenth South Carolina Regiment and was soon promoted to First Lieutenant, and in April, 1862, was elected Captain of his Company. He served until the following July when compelled to resign on account of Physical Disability. In the meantime he was under General Bragg and had command of a regiment during the retreat from Corinth. In November, 1864, he resumed duty as Captain of Company B, Second Regiment, State Troops. When Sherman's Army entered the State he was detailed by the Governor for duty as a physician in Edgefield County. Following the War he practiced Medicine in Edgefield County until 1892. For several years he lived in Columbia where he had prominent connections with business and financial affairs, and was also a resident of Batesburg, and during that time was President of two of the local Banks. Form some time he was President of the Farmers Bank at Edgefield and a Vice President of the Farmers and Mechanics Bank of Columbia. With all the duties and burdens of a large medical practice he became conspicuous in the public life of his county and state. He was elected to the Legislature in 1882, and again in 1890, resigning to enter the State Senate for an unexpired term, being re-elected in 1892. He served as President Pro-Tem of the Senate and became acting Lieutenant-Governor when Judge Gary was promoted to the Supreme Bench. He was elected without opposition to the office of Lieutenant-Governor in 1894 and served until January, 1897, following which he became State Treasurer and was twice elected to that office without opposition. He served as a member of the Constitutional Convention of 1895. Captain Timmerman married in 1856 Pauline Asbill, who died in 1873, the mother of six children. Captain Timmerman in 1879 married Henrietta M Bell. Dr. W Price Timmerman attended local and private schools, and graduated in 1891 from the Medicatl College of the State of South Carolina at Charleston. For the first two years he practiced at Kirksey in what is now Greenwood County. Then for nine years he practiced at Timmerman and in 1902 moved to Batesburg. He is one of the leading physicians and surgeons of Lexington County, enjoys a large General Practice and is also local surgeon for the Southern Railway. He is a member of the County, State, Tri-State and American Medical Associations and has been District Councilor in the State Society. He is also a Member of the Association of Southern Railway Surgeons. He is a member of the Democratic Executive Committee, and for a busy doctor exercises considerable influence in Local and State politics. In 1896 Doctor Timmerman married Miss Saidee Moore of Abbeville County who died leaving no children. For his present wife he married Miss Mary Swygert in 1905. 3. If someone is looking for Fletchers in gibson County, I might be able to help. There were at least two brothers, Thomas and William Fletcher and a sister Mitilda Biggs who came from NC to Gibson county around 1830. My line goes to William Fletcher born 1780 in Maryland and died 1844 near Dyer, Tenn. There is a large family of Fletchers that lived in that Curry community for 150 years. I have searched all the cemeteries and know where some of them are buried. Some are buried in unmarked graves. I was not able to find Williams grave or his son Henry or Henry's son Abner J. Fletcher but I know they are there somewhere. I have the will of both Thomas and William. Williams children were Josiah Fletcher who married Rebecca Forrester, Henry who married Mary Wilkins and Caroline Piolate, Martha Fletcher, Elizabeth Margaret Fletcher, Nancy Fletcher who married Stephen Snowden, Matilda Fletcher, John Fletcher and Abner J Fletcher who married Mary O Wilkes and Martha J. Johnson. Abner lived in Rutherford and is buried there in the Rutherford Cemetery. There is a Moses Fletcher and I have been sure where he belongs. I have him as a chld of William but he could be a brother or a son of Thomas. In the 1850 census Thomas Fletcher and Sarah have 3 children at home who are Isaac, Elizabeth, and Kissiah. There was a Reuben Fletcher who was a child of Thomas. This is a start If you wish more, contact me. Peggy Sample Reen at email parkave1@gte.net I was born in Rutherford and Abner J Fletcher was my Great Great grand father. -----Original Message----- From: Charles McCollum <enolaren@bellsouth.net> To: TNGIBSON-L@rootsweb.com <TNGIBSON-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, July 28, 1999 4:10 PM Subject: [TNGIBSON-L] Fletchers: >Who ever it was looking for information on Fletchers of Gibson County in >the last 12 months please contact me. 3. Vicki, This is a list of my Flowers ancestors beginning with the earliest Gibson Co. Flowers ancestor that I originally submitted to the Flowers Historical Society for posting. If it is suitable for posting in the generation charts, please do so. If the format is okay, I will try to send other lists for the other lines I have researched at a later time. Thanks, Alice If any of the others on the TNGibson-List recognize any of these people as being your ancestors as well, would like to hear from you. In my research I have discovered that another one of Jacob's sons is an ancestor of my husband, and still another of his sons is my brother-in-law's ancestor, so the branches have really spread out over Gibson County. ---------- > Subject: Jacob Flowers--born abt 1763 NC-died 1855 in Gibson Co., Tn. 3. Harvey Bottoms put together all the 1860 districts that were transcribed in CART and they now have one index. So if you click at the bottom of a CART census page on index, it will give you all the pages done in CART, plus the names in alphabetical order. A big thanks to Harvey! Vicki
