    2. Pat Jones
    3. Charles: I live in McNairy Co. TN. I know exactly what you mean, I've been there and done that. I did good to pick 150 pounds of cotton a day. Think of all the hard work it took to get that corn and cotton to the point of harvesting. Pat Jones

    2. Charles McCollum
    3. Now, maybe this will help some of you youngsters to know more fully about the life of a poor country boy. Red Anthony and I have been carry on about gathering corn. He thought I should tell the younger generation what we mean by gathering, since some of you wrote him. My description applies to we old timers not the up date city farmers of today, who have an air condition cab to ride in, with music, and two way radios. L O L Gathering corn was done in the following manner. A team and wagon went to the field and would gather five rows at a time, a man on each side gathered two rows each, of course the wagon knocked down a row, this was known as the down row. Most of the time a youngster was assigned to this task. A back breaking job. Take it from one who knows. Now we gather corn and picked cotton. In the old days you had a long sack (Cotton sack) that you drug. You could some times get 75 pounds in that sack. Then you had to throw it over your shoulders and head for the scales, here it was weighed, get a drink of warm water, empty sack and hurry back to the patch and try to catch up. Now, that is if you were getting paid to pick it. I hope this will help you appreciate the way the farmers have it made today. Now you city slickers don't get the idea farming is easy for it isn't. Ha Ha .............Charles McCollum...........

    1. [TNGIBSON-L] FARR
    2. New to list. Looking for more info on Sarah FARR (my great grandmother) born to Joseph and Tabitha (Taletha?) Farr. The family appears in the 1860 Gibson County, TN Census #227-312 as J.E. FARR 43, Tabitha 42, Martha 15, Calista 12, John 10, Easter 8 and Sarah 5. She supposedly met her future husband, Andrew Jackson CRADDOCK in an orphanage. Any information on how and when she was orphaned, what happened to her siblings, how her parents died and where they are buried would be greatly appreciated. Also, what is the name and where is the orphanage and how do I find their records? Not asking for much, am I? :-))))) Thanx in advance. Terry in VA

    3. I will be visiting Gibson Co. to research the Hays line in the 1840's. Also, am interested in WW Craig and the Stewart family. Other than the courthouse and library, does anyone have additional sources that might contain information about these families. Read this source daily. Appreciate the professional manner in which it is organized and those who contribute. Mollie Molnar

    2. I need help in verifying a date of birth. I have Cassandra Charity Harris Woods born 16 Jun 1860. Cassandra died in Trenton 13 May 1878. She married LeGrand M. Jones 2 Oct 1850. That would make Cassandra only ten years old when she married. LeGrand Jones was born 26 Sept 1817. That would have made him 37 when he married ten year old Cassandra. They had 14 children. The first born in 1851. Are there any descendants of the 14 children still in the Trenton/Gibson Co. area? I appreciate all the help I get from the Gibson Co. group. Phil Di Matteo

    3. I would like to clarify that I personally will not be deciding on what information gets digitized. I am taking charge to see where the interest is and if there is a sufficient interest that we can get the price of this information to the point that the people wanting them (including myself) are willing to actually do it and pay the price. You, who are reading this email, are the ones choosing what information that you are wanting to be digitized. I am just going to try to make it a reality. Harvey

    3. I will post all of the suggestions that people offer in about a week, then we will give everyone a final chance to be a part of it. I will then estimate the individual cost and let everyone know to see if they are still interested. If there is still interest then I will proceed to finalize what is necessary to get the information digitized. If anyone has a problem with doing it this way, please let me know. Harvey
