Exactly what is the Sheriff's List? I looked at it and found some names that were not on the census, but I don't understand the significance of the "List." Jim Prange

I really didn't lie! LOL! If any of you are having problems accessing the Sheriff's completed list......Rootsweb is down and seems to have lost my last 2 days of updates to the pages. The server is down, too so I can't reload it. Vicki

The 1830 Sheriff's List is complete thanks to Jere Cox! There are 2 lists..........the long one and a shorter one that follows it. There is also a notation at the end of 4 folks who shouldn't have been enumerated (probably listed twice) and the total number of inhabitants was 1613. This is really a great resource as many folks on this list aren't on the 1830 census.
