I haven't written to the list in a while, so here goes. I am going to shift to Southern Gibson County for a while. My great-grandmother Lennie Mae Lee MORRIS HENLEY was the daughter of William (?) MORRIS and Nealy Ellis SMITH MORRIS. They say William died when she was little (if William is his name) and was buried near Frog Jump. Mamaw's sister remembers standing in the door of their house and watching her father being carried to the cemetery. I know Nealy's parents names...Andrew Jackson SMITH and Nancy Elizabeth Savannah Jane CHESTER SMITH. William?'s parents...no clue. HELP IF YOU CAN!!!!!!! Anyone who lives near Frogjump and has access to cemeteries there, look for a Morris and see if he is the husband of Nealy, N.E., Nealy E., Neely E. or any other variations. Thanks a lot, Adam ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
I am really excited about family history and I am grateful to all the dedicated folks who man the websites and keep adding information to them for those of us who are no where near our target areas geographically. My main line of focus in Tennessee has been the GILLIAM line out of Henderson County. I often go browsing and stumbled onto the Gibson County website in August from the Henderson County site I believe. I was looking through the cemetery listings and when I opened the Duck Hill page put up by Milton Webb I just about had heart failure! I found two of the GILLIAMS that I had been searching for and one of their grandsons as soon as I opened the page! They are Harvey Leander and Alcy (PRESLAR) GILLLIAM. Finding the grandson there as well was just an added bonus. Gilliam H. L. Nov. 4, 1847 Feb. 9, 1925 he is at rest Gillam Ailsie May 22, 1847 Oct. 20, 1921 Maness Philip Jun. 22, 1891 Aug. 25, 1905 gson of HL & Aleay Gillam a precious one from ----- has gone (broken stone) His mother was Emily Elizabeth GILLAM MANESS NANNEY. I have her down line and in contact with one of her gr-gr-gr granddaughters fairly often. Harvey and Alsey had six children that I am aware of: George A. b. abt 1867 married Cora (?) Clarence b. abt 1900 Harry b. abt 1906 Amanda E. b. abt 1869 Albert M. b. abt 1871 married Frances (?) abt 1890-91 Ida b. Oct 1892 Ernest b. Oct 1894 Fester b. Sep 1896 Vergil b. Apr 1903 Freddie H. b. 17 Mar 1905 married Frances Lillian MATTHEWS Robert H. b. 31 Oct 1909 married Hannah Alice NEVILLE Lovina b. abt 1877 married John W. McVAY Christopher b. abt 1898 Nancy E. b. abt 1869 I am very interested in discovering what happened to these other children of Harvey and Alcey. I believe I might have found their daughter Amanda and her family in the cemetery with them. I know it is a stretch but I just kind of 'feel ' it; I have no idea who Amanda married but I really think it was John A. DAVIDSON. This is another group listed on the Duck Hill Cemetery page: Davidson inf son 1891 son of JA & Amanda inf dau 1892 dau of JA & Amanda Davidson Lovie Jan. 17, 1889 Jan. 15, 1910 dau of JA & Amanda Davidson John A. 1867 1924 Davidson Amanda 1868 1952 his wife Stacks Ruby Davidson 1894 1948 The Davidsons have a daughter here named Lovie, not a big stretch to think she might have been named for an aunt (Amanda's sister). I see a few other Davidsons which might be tied in as well. Any ideas for me as to where to go next? I am not from the area so it is impossible for me to get there. Anyone on this list researching GILLIAMS, PRESLARS, DAVIDSONS, STACKS? I could sure use some help! Regards, Dianna Gilliam justpeachy@greenhills.net

What a wonderful web site you have here in Gibson Co.! So much information in a clear format! Thank you! Thank you! I'm looking for any info on the Marcum/Markhams of Gibson Co. I'm sure my ggrandmother Julia Elizabeth Marcum b. 1850 TN and married to Andrew Tate in 1867 in Perry Co. TN, has family ties to these Marcums, just don't know how. Can anyone help? Any information is very much appreciated. Thank you Geraldine Tate Wilson
A friend of mine sent this, so, I'm forwarding it to all my wonderful lists... Dixie Lea in K. C. (Ks.)Murphy's Genealogy Laws a.. The will you need is in a safe onboard the Titanic B.. You finally find the wedding record for your gggrandfather only to discover he married Mary SMITH whose father was John SMITH and mother was Mary JONES! c.. You have finally found the information you needed to solve the family mystery you have been working on for 2 years and your elderly aunt says "I could have told you that!" d.. You find an old family photo album and upon close examination, there are no names on the pictures. e.. You learn that your great grandmother's family bible (passed down through the family for 3 generations) was sold at an estate sale in New York City. f.. You find your family in the census and write to the county where they lived for 40 years, only to receive a letter stating all the county records burned. g. You learn there is a county history on microfilm of the county your ancestors originated. It has 16000 pages and is not indexed. h.. The public ceremony in which your distinguished ancestor participated and at which the platform collapsed under him, turned out to be a hanging. Where is that guy Murphy anyway?? I really do have a few things to say to him!
