History goes hand-in-hand with genealogy. I've always thought that a very positive byproduct of our genealogical endeavors is to "rediscover" the values of our fore fathers and thus see the foundation of what makes this nation so great. I for one thank you for sending your msg with hopes that others obtain as much insight from it as I. I'm definitely going to save it and pass it around to others. Take care Angela. Thanks to everyone for making the Gibson Co website, and email list, such a great place to visit. Eddy G. Clark Researching Clarks, Dixons, Garners, Everetts, McNutts, Nichols & Kings

This resolution was delivered to President George Washington, who readily agreed with its suggestion and put forth the following proclamation by his signature: A NATIONAL THANKSGIVING Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me "to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness": Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the Beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us. And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplication to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our national government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a government of wise, just and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally, to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best. 3. Happy Thanksgiving to you all! I am researching the DOLLAR, TAYLOR and CLAY families William C. Clay born 1814 in NC I found him listed on the 1850 Census of Gibson Co. TN married to a Parnelia (no maiden name given) born 1812 in TN. They had 6 children: Francis Clay b. 1836; Sarah Clay b. 1837; Mary Elizabeth Clay b. 1839; William H. Clay b. 1841; Albert Clay b. 1844; John Clay b. 1847. I also found them in the World Family Tree Volume 2, however, Parnelia is listed there as Parmelia Ann (still no last name). Francis Clay married John Marion Taylor. Sarah Clay married Will H. Hardy. Mary Elizabeth Clay married Joshua Marion Taylor and had Sarah Elizabeth EmmaTaylor b. 1863; Martha Alice "Mattie" Taylor b. 1866; and Betty Clay Taylor b. abt. 1868. Martha Taylor is reported to be of Sioux Indian decent, however, I have not been able to get any documentation proving it. Martha Taylor married Thomas Payton Dollar and had Robbie Evert Dollar and John Marion Dollar. There were other siblings as well, but I haven't found their names yet. Thomas Payton Dollar and Martha Taylor are supposed to be on the Madison Co. 1870 Census, but I haven't been able to view it yet.

    3. Happy Thanksgiving all! We are a blessed nation and have much to be thankful for. SEARCHING PEACOCK, WOODSON, GOODWIN, DAVIE, NORFLEET My Gibson County connection is my GG Grandfather Dr. Rufus Wilie PEACOCK m Mary Jane WOODSON (b25 Mar 1832) m on 4 Aug. 1852 in Gibson County. Mary Jane daughter of James P. WOODSON and Nancy GOODWIN. Rufus was in the 1850 Henry County Census. They had a son, James W. Peacock, b. either 1853 or 1864 and buried in the New Hope Cemetery (Milan Arsenal). I tend to believe the earlier date, since by 1860 Mary Jane apparently died (although I suppose divorce possible) and Rufus remarried Martha Davie in Haywood County. Looking for death dates of Mary Jane and her son James W. Peacock. Also, did James Peacock grow up, marry and have children? _______________________________ Ray and Joyce Horton and family "Horton Family" <sunray@erie.net> 2720 Ellsworth Ave. Erie, PA 16508 814-454-7191 (work) 814-864-2958 (home)
