    1. [TNGIBSON] Rutherford Register Marriage and Death Notice
    2. Alice King
    3. Hello Vicki and Listers, Following is a marriage report for SMITH-DRAPER appearing in the Friday, October 14, 1921 Rutherford Register. The marriage report was excerpted from The Wheeler County Texan because the marriage took place in Texas, but they came to Rutherford to live because the groom was originally from Rutherford. SMITH-DRAPER "In the presence of only a few intimate friends, SHIRLEY DRAPER, formerly of this place, but now of RUTHERFORD, Tennessee, and Miss JOSEPHINE SMITH of this city were united in the holy bonds of wedlock at WELLINGTON last Friday evening, Rev. Huckaby, pastor of the Methodist church at Wellington, officiating. The groom was for several months a book-keeper at the Frank Wofford store at this place, but returned to his old home in Tennessee last summer. During his short stay here he made many warm friends. He is a very able and energetic young business man and a valuable asset to any town. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. W. B. SMITH of this place, and has resided here all her life. She was one of the most popular girls of the town, and was a member of the graduating class of 1920 of the Shamrock high school. For the past several months she has acted in the capacity of assistant post master at the local post office. The estimable young couple left Sunday night for Rutherford, Tenn., where they will make their permanent home. The best wishes of their many friends will accompany them.--THE WHEELER COUNTY TEXAN. 1. [TNGIBSON] Burials In Gibson Co.
    2. Barry Crocker
    3. Merry Christmas All! I have made several updates to the Burials Surname pages the past week. When you have a chance, check them out at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tngibson/cemeteries/surnames/cemeterySurnames.h tm The surnames listed are for the most part, ones that I am interested in but there are a couple that I have been asked to do by Adam McCartney who has helped me a great deal with the project. If you see something that isn't right or have something to add, let me know. Keep in mind that I've only extracted names from the cemeteries that have been read. Barry Crocker

    2. Ray Horton
    3. Hello Virginia. I've been watch your E-Mails on the list closely since I have HORTON, NORFLEET and CARROLL COUNTY connections. I'd be interested in particular in any HORTON connections since my grandfather Rufus Wilie HORTON was orphaned, and I just the other day found out who his father, my g grandfathe,r was. Here's my info: my GG Grandfather, Dr. Rufus Wiley PEACOCK (1827-1899) moved with his family (Wiley and Lefa PEACOCK and siblings) from Wayne Co. NC to TN in late 1830s. In 1850 census Rufus is in Henry County (living at Richard MANLEY residence as a teacher), while his mother and siblings are found in Carroll County. Dr. Rufus married Mary Jane WOODSON in Gibson Cnty 1852 (one son James W.) - She died 1859, and he remarried my GG Grandmother Martha DAVIE 1860 in Haywood Cnty. Their daughter, my G Grandmother, was Mignonnette (Nettie) PEACOCK. Martha died in late 1860s and Dr. Rufus remarried Anne Martha NORFLEET (1st mrg. MCCULLOCH) (daughter of Starkey NORFLEET and Nancy W. PARKER) 1870 in Clarksville, Montgomery Co., TN. They moved to Jersey City, NJ, and Dr. Rufus Wiley PEACOCK went to NYU Medical School across the river in NYC (grad. 1875). Meanwhile, my G Grandmother Mignonnette (Nettie) PEACOCK married about 1879-1880 HARRY E. HORTON in TN or NJ. They had my Grandfather Rufus Wiley HORTON 15 Jul, 1881. While the family was Methodist, I discovered they baptized young Rufus Catholic 20 Aug 1881 in Jersey City, so Harry may have been Catholic. Anyway, I have nothing else on Harry E. HORTON - but I think he had southern connections since family legend is that he fought for the CSA, which would make him quite a bit older than Nettie. Also family word of mouth was that he was one of 5 brothers that came over from England. He died 1880-81, I understand in a RR accident. Are any of these names familiar to you? is there a possible connection to Harry HORTON. - Ray _______________________________ Ray and Joyce Horton and family "Horton Family" <sunray@erie.net> 2720 Ellsworth Ave. Erie, PA 16508 814-454-7191 (work) 814-864-2958 (home)
