I have made little progress on my Gibson County research in the last while, but quite a bit at other places: Crockett County: If anyone connects to the family of Jim and Donie (?) Chester Morris, please contact me. Their son, William Allen Morris (m/ Nealy Ellis SMITH, closely related, maybe even 1st cousins) was my g-g-grandfather. He died in 1921 and all it said on place of burial was "Vince White" on the death certificate. Does anyone know anything about Crockett County? Everyone's address on the certificate (except for one) was "Maury City, TN". Carroll County: Looking for connections to my George Letsinger family. Father of Louisa M. Letsinger, who married John M. Dunlap. Their daughter, Victoria E. Dunlap, is my g-g-g-grandmother. She married John Yates. Also, John M. Dunlap's parents. There were two John M. Dunlaps, which commplicates things even more. Both of them also married Louisas. I thought I had found their burial place at Cox Chapel, but it turned out to be the other John M. and his wife Louisa Kee. ***GIBSON COUNTY*** Looking for Pillow, Henry (buried at Centerville Cemetery near Medina, born in 187_?). Thanks and please... HELP IF YOU CAN!!!!!!! Adam ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
Hi Jim & Kelley, (et.al. on Gibson Co List) The Gibson County CDs that I helped in sponsoring were from 10 rolls of microfilm of the Rutherford Register. Most of the issues of the papers were from 1907 to 1932 and so they are not overly significant for many Gibson Co researchers. However, between my aunt and I, we have gleened out well over two dozen articles pertaining to our mutual families that provided VERY interesting facts that were unknown to us beforehand. While this effort cost me about $500, it allows anyone else who wants the same CDs, to obtain them from Digital Antiquities at a price less than I paid for the rolls of microfilm - and the CDs gave me much better resolution and convenience than I would have achieved with only the microfilm. If you are interested in these CDs, you can order them directly from Digital Antiquities - they are listed on their website. If you go to the Digital Antiquities' website, you will find that by sponsoring the conversion of a roll of microfilm to a CD would not only entitle you to one free copy of the CD, it would entitle you to buy as many copies (within the first year I believe) of the CD you want for only $10 per CD. So if a group of 5 individuals wanted to sponsor a single CD, and each individual wanted a single copy of the CD, this could be accomplished at a cost of $20 per person (excluding the cost of buying the microfilm & mailing costs). Besides, it provides a very nice resource to other Gibson County researchers. If you decide to do this, please check with the Digital Antiquities website first to make sure the policies and/or procedures have not changed. It would really be nice if a Gibson County Historical and Genealogical Society could be formed and take on dues and take on the project of converting the over 600 historical reels of microfilm to CDs. If enough folks participated, we could charge $25-$50 annual dues & provide members a discounted price on the CDs (thus you could recoop the cost of dues by savings to the CDs you helped in sponsoring). Just an idea that's not fully cooked. Gotta run. Take care, Eddy G. Clark JRags0951@aol.com wrote: > I would sure be interested in copies of the Gibson County Newspaper CD. Cheryl, Just a friendly reminder - there is a guy in Virginia I believe, that converts microfilm to high resolution scans on a CD. I've had him do 10 rolls of Gibson Co newspaper for me and he did a great job. I paid $50 per roll to have him convert the film over to CDs and got a free copy of the CD for my time and money. You may think this is expensive, but it allows others to buy the CD for $20 a piece (maybe less) which is probably less than you paid for the microfilm. If you or others are interested (you need fresh clean microfilm), you can contact him at his website - www.digital-antiquities.com . If you decide to convert your film to CD, let folks here know about it because I'd be interested in buying old Clerk Minutes if they were only on CD. Take care Cheryl, et.al., Eddy G. I just sent off to Tennessee to purchase the following Gibson County microfilm rolls: Roll 21, Circuit Court Minutes, Book L-N, August 1876 - Dec 1883 Roll 52, County Clerk Minutes, Book J-K, 1869 through 1874; and Roll 55, County Clerk Minutes, 1882 through 1885 I'll let you know of my progress, but I'm hoping to finally find out what happened in that Laneview "Markham murdered Harrison" trial and if there are any indications of what my g-g grandmother's name is (in the 1869 reel). There's a new nut on my family tree, my only daughter got married to a Barker last month. She has decided not to hyphenate her name since it would be a confusing set of nouns (Walker-Barker) as bad as mine. Cheryl (Varner) Walker
