Max, This is a family group sheet on Shady D. Hopper and Elizabeth R. Lemonds. I gathered this information for a Shady D. Hopper descendant, Bob Hopper, who lives in Dyer, Gibson Co., TN. I am getting ready to send it to him via snail mail. This couple married in Lincoln Co., TN. Also note their 1860 census that includes a 21 year old J. W. Lemonds. Fellow Listers, I hope that I am not violating a protocol for list members with this message, but a great deal of people have expressed an interest in obtaining a copy of the "Flowers Chronicles" by P. B. Flowers, Jr. His first printing has been sold out for quite some time. So, it might be a point of interest to any of you that might be researching the Flowers name in Gibson Co. but do not subscribe to the Flowers list to learn that a message appeared recently on that list that Bill Flowers is working on a reprint of his book "Flowers Chronicles". He hopes to have a brochure ready to mail to those interested within the next month or two, with info relating to cost, how to order, etc. To put your name on the list to receive the brochure, or to express an interest in purchasing a copy of his book when he reprints, you may e-mail him at bfchron@concentric.net or contact him by snail mail at Bill Flowers 1273 Blazing Ridge West Lawrenceberg, Georgia 30045 His book is well written, and is invaluable to those researchers who wish to take the Flowers ancestors back beyond Gibson Co.; however he does not have a great deal of detail in regard to our Gibson Co. Flowers after they have reached Gibson Co. If you have researched the Flowers name only in Gibson Co., this book is a good connecting point for the ancestors backward in the line. Alice King
Can anyone tell me about John W. HOPPER who lived in Gibson County? Bob
In a message dated 2/26/00 8:21:08 AM Pacific Standard Time, JUtleyMail@aol.com writes: << This is the best explanation I've seen about how to determine cousins and "removed". Jackie >> Thank you for sharing this explanation--it makes it all very simple. Dorothy Blankenship--searching for parents of John C. Blankinship, b. 1825 in Tn, m. Margaret Cannon, b. 1827 in Tn, m. 1846, Gibson County, Tn.listed on the 1850 census with two daughters--Buena Vista--age 4, and Eliza, age 3. The 1860 census lists Margaret as Head of Household, with a daughter, Mandia, age 13, (we assume this to be Eliza from 1850 using a middle (or first name)also, sons, John, age 7 and Albert, age 3. (my GGrandfather) The problems seems to be that there was at least one other John C. in Gibson County in 1850--both the same age. The other John is listed in the household of his parents--Thomas and Mary McKelvy Blankinship. Information on the two of them have been intermingled, making it harder than ever to trace our John. Any information would be gratefully accepted!
Sue Wilson has completed the 1860 census of District No. 16. A BIG thanks to Sue! It loads slowly as it is in tables but Sue did a great job! Take a look: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tngibson/census/fedl1860/1860GibsonCoDist16.htm Vicki
Hi! Is there anyone in the Gibson Co., TN area that does look-ups? I am needing a birth record for my ggrandfather. He was b. Nov. 8, 1885 in Gibson Co., TN. His name was Walter Cleveland Tucker. My aunt has my grandma's bible & it lists Nancy Mathis as his mother but doesn't list his father. This is all the info I have on him except for his children & spouses. Some of his children are still alive but they said he never talked about his family so they really can't help me. I'm at a brick wall on this one. Thanks in advance. Kristin Phillips
