Hello, Is anyone searching the Schneider / Snyder family in Trenton and Gibson County. My wife's great - Aunt was married to Emile Snyder who had a clothing store in Trenton. We have some information and have Emile's naturalization papers. They came from Hagenau, France, near Strasbourg. I have some copies of birth certificates. I got to visit there a few years ago and found Emile's parents tombstone and visited the nearby village where there were lots of Schneiders in the church cemetery. By the way, Mr. Emile Snyder was a tailor. The name Schneider in German means tailor. His father and some others were tailors as well. Max Crocker Max A. Hello Jack and Fellow Hill researchers, Jack Foster wrote: <Hi Shelly, my gmother was Julia Francis Hill daughter of Jim Hill & Belle Bledsoe. She married William Wright Hopper ca1888 inDyer Co Tn.> Good news! I was keeping an eye open for your HILL's and HOPPER's while searching for my HILL's on the 1900 Dyer Census, and I found them! They were neighbors! Not only that, but I found my HILL living with a BLEDSOE family. I found a PRUITT/BLEDSOE connection as well. Jack, I'd bet my last dollar that we're kin. I'm just not sure what the connection is exactly. Perhaps others on the list can shed some light on this? Here is what I've found. This portion of the census is very hard to read, so there are a lot of question marks: There are five PRUITT families living adjacent to one another. Mine is one of them: PRUITT, W. W., (William), head, Feb. 1850, 49 TN, TN, ARK Mandy, (Amanda FISHER), wife, Sept. 1856, 44 TN, MS, MS Lou, (Lou Mamie), daughter, June 1884 TN, MS, MS Lillian (Lil), daughter, Jan. 1886 TN, MS, MS Rosy (Rose), daughter, 1887? TN, MS, TN Lular, daughter, 1888? TN, MS, TN Dollie, daughter, 1889? TN, MS, TN (Check out those places of birth. I don't know what to make of that.) Lou Mamie PRUITT will marry John William HILL, b. 1882 in Dyer Co., on July 19, 1900 in Dyer, just a few months after the taking of this census. John William HILL, who was raised by William PRUITT, is found living next door with the BLEDSOE family: (Hard to read) BLEDSOE, A., head, 27? TN, SC?, TN Nola?, wife, 24 TN, KY, KY ?, daughter, 2 BLEDSOE, ?, head, 28 Florence?, wife, 38 ? B., son, 1 Several boarders. BLEDSOE, ?, head, 1841 A,H,?, son, 1878 Linda L.?, daughter, 1884 PASTON?, Fannie?, July 1885 Several "hands" including: Akins? HILL, 1877 BLEDSOE, J., head, Dec. 1863 TN, TN, TN L.E.?, 1871 TN, TN, TN J., son, Jan. 1887 Ethal?, daughter, 1894 S.M.?, daughter, 1896 Walter, son, 1899 HILL, John (My GG Grandfather John William HILL), hand, 1882 TN, Unknown?, Unknown? Jack, I found no HOPPERs in Dyer, but found a family in Gibson Co. on the 1900 Census. There are many HILL and PRUITT families in Gibson as well: HOPPER, William, 41 Mary, 39 William, 15 (Twin) Ella, 15 (Twin) Herbert, 11 Hope to hear from cousins!, Shelley -- Shelley R. Woodson Sgreenle@ttacs.ttu.edu
Hi Jack, I am also researching the HOPPER family. Do you have a John W. Hopper? LE

He has a sister that was put up for adoption also, think her name may be Helen. Rose Guthrie is also a name that stands out in mind as having heard before. My grandmother used to call my grandfather Jackie sometimes. These two children were sent to a state orphanage where my grandfather was adopted by James Calvin Cobb & Nannie Catherine Baker Cobb. They lived sometime in a town called Cottage Grove, Tn. they are buried in Palestine Cemetary in Henery County. Jean and Jerry, I am researching the GEORGE surname and have found two SNODDY families connected to GEORGE's. I don't know yet if the GEORGE'S are related to me, but wanted to pass along the SNODDY info in the event it can help either of you. In 1850 Lincoln County, TN (LI-714-100) there is a David L. George age 9 living with the David SNODDY family. I also found a married record for Julia Snoddy marrying Daniel George in 1839 in Lincoln County, TN. My suspicion is that Julia Snoddy is either the sister or daughter of David Snoddy and the child living with David Snoddy in 1850 is her son. Have either of you any information on either of these families. Tricia
Hi Jerry, I noticed your posting on James Knox Polk Snoddy. My 4th great was Samuel Snoddy who was born in NC 1768 and married Mary Purviance Feb 12 1796 in Bourbon Co. KY. He was the son of Samuel Snoddy SR. born abt 1720 and Elizabeth Sloan. Members of my branch of the Snoddy family were early settlers to NE Arkansas. My 3rd great grandmother, Sarah Snoddy, married James Stotts in 1832. They borh were natives of TN. I have a little information on the Snoddy line. If you think they connect to your line, I will be glad to share what I have with you.
