    3. FYI: Much of what became TN was originally claimed as part of the North Carolina colony (whether it was later recognized as "Indian Territories" or not). And many of the land grants in TN originated from lands "belonging" to the Univ of North Carolina. It is possible in some of the early "recordings" of individuals' birth place, that when it is listed as North Carolina, it may have in fact been in territory that later became part of other states, particularly TN & KY. 2. Mema- The only info I have on the Foard Co., TX Bells is from a transcrition of the 1920 Census for Foard Co., Tx. The family was Arthur Bell age 27, b. TX, Fa born NC, Mother born NC; wife Verda, age 21, b. Tx, Fa.- MO. & Mother -Miss; and son ( who married my Aunt) Raymond A., age 2 yrs, 7 months, born TX. The Bells lived in the Rayland Community of Foard Co. Raymond A. died abut 5 years ago but his widow, son and two daughters survive. She and the two daughters live in Vernon, Tx. and the son lives in West Texas. With the father being from NC there is certainly the possibility of them being connected to your Bells. Rex

    3. The reason for the migration was that the area that became Gibson Co. was Indian Territory until ca. 1823 when the treaty was signed with Chickasaw Indians. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, January 26, 2004 12:08 PM Subject: Re: [Tngibson] Re: Bell Family > Mema- I suspect that there was not a specific reason for the great number of > people migrating from RU to Gibson Co. but that it was basically the overall > migration westward. 2. Mema- I suspect that there was not a specific reason for the great number of people migrating from RU to Gibson Co. but that it was basically the overall migration westward. As one person or family moved they wrote back to friends and family and told them of land availability and other features that they liked. Then others followed etc. etc. My first Phillips/Philips moved there between 1860 & 1870 but my GG GF ( and one of his brothers)did not come until after 1870. 2. Suggest you check out Rutherford Co.( just 30 miles south of Nashville). For some reason tere were a lot of people migrated from Rutherford to Gibson in 1850-1870 period, including about 12 of my Phillips line. I know trhere was a Nancy Bell who married a Willaim King in RU. Co. in 1844 and they moved to Gibson Co. I believe she hasd a sister nmaed Lillian but am not positive. Am listing the URL for RU Co. archives below. They have a lot of court records (index primarily but they have some students working there who will look up the item/article and Email you the info). -- Rex Phillips- Dallas http://www.rutherfordcounty.org/archives/main.html

    3. Rex, I figure the same as you on the migration the 1840's & 1850's....one of the other posts suggested that the 1800-1850 migration from NC to TN was because of the land grants from military service in the Rev. War. Do you happen to have any more information on the Bell that married your dad's younger sister? Names and dates? 1. Re: [Tngibson] Re: Bell Family
    2. Mema
    3. Rex, Thank you for jumping in here with that supporting information. I will check that out. Have you found out what the reason was for "a lot of people migrated from Rutherford to Gibson in 1850-1870 period, including about 12 of my Phillips line". ?? Because seven families of our immediate Stubblefield siblings that married in Wilson Co., TN (Wilson Co., is just North of Rutherford Co., TN) moved to Gibson County, and all lived near each other in the 1850 census. One of the interesting things is that ALL the families that married into the Stubblefield family were from NC. I have a index list of all the Bell's in Gibson Co., 1850 census and of the fifty or so there were only three that were not from NC and those were from SC. And going by the birth dates of their children the migration was about 1810 to 1830 from NC to TN. Do you have any BELL family lines in your tree? Because we have one of ours that migrated on to TX. One of the reasons that the Rutherford County is so interesting to me is that the migration pattern of my Stubblefield family [as I have found so far] is : 1819 "birth of first Stubblefield sibling" through 1830 census & 1840 census AL> 1841 Rutherford County TN for the birth of the last Stubblefield sibling> 1844 Wilson Co., Tn has several Stubblefield siblings marriage records> 1850 Gibson Co., TN census has them all living near each other.> I have followed the split of some going to CA and some to TX by 1860 census. I have been off all lists for a time, now I remember how generous & helpful everyone is on them. I love your sense of humor in your addy. 3. To Kay Fleming: do you have ancestors in Gibson County? In an adjoining line of mine there was a Hiram W. Fleming (b. abt 1827) who married Eliza Carroll (b. abt 1828). They moved to Gibson County from Sampson County, NC around 1848 and lived in the Morella Community I think. Eliza was the daughter of John W. Carroll of Sampson County. If any of this rings a bell and you would like to share info, drop me a note. I believe also listed was a Valentine Bell and although I believe there is a relationship to Nancy Bell Hamilton, I can prove it. Any help greatly appreciated. Pat

    3. I never have been able to find any trace of Lydia after 1850. I figured she died or moved....I searched the graveyards in Gibbson Co. that were on-line, but not Wilson Co. If her husband did die in Wilson Co. they may have taken her back there. It's not that far away. Or she could have re-married and moved. I couldn't find any Lydia's that would have match her age in Gibbson in 1860, 1870, or 1880. and I looked at every household. To bad only the Head of House hold was shown on the 1840 census, our case would be solved.....Teresa

    3. Same here, but I keep turning rocks & finding bits and pieces. I just sent you what I posted on the Boshers board. It is possible that the Elisha Bell (she speaks of) is married to Lydia. If he was born at the one end of the possible siblings, say. circa 1800 (Lydia was born circa 1795). Have you ever found any Bell household in Wilson County TN 1840 with what could have been the right numbers for Eldridge & Bethenia & Andrew? There might be other numbers there for other siblings too. Because that would be when Eldridge was married in Wilson County TN, is in the 1840's Take care mema ----- Original Message ----- From: "Deetees" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 25, 2004 4:24 PM Subject: Re: [Tngibson] Re: Bell Family > I never have been able to find any trace of Lydia after 1850. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ReB.2ACE/1423.2.2.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Pat, I get just as excited when I can share family information, as when I find a piece of the puzzle myself. Below I will post some information that came to me from a "distant KZN" that is a whiz in the research, and very generous. One of the things she advised me to get was a Delux Legacy 5.0 ancestry program to install all my information onto as I went.....well, I cannot tell you how IMPORTANT that is for you to do, right now, in the beginning of your research on your family. I am playing catch-up with putting my stored information onto my new Delux Legacy 5.0 program, but I am loving every minute of it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here is the work sheet for the families I mentioned to you that are related by marriage: Grissom family father: Unknown Grissom (maybe John) mother: Mary Unknown b:NC Children: Stephen Grissom - 1816 - North Carolina [Thomas Grissom could be a sibling b: 1817-18 NC?] Candis Grissom - 1821 - North Carolina Allen Grissom - 1824 - North Carolina Eleanor Grissom - 1828 - Tennessee [WH Grissom could be a sibling b: 1830 TN?] Willis B Grissom - 1833 - Alabama Malvina Grissom - 1836 - Alabama Taking in their migration, they were in Wilson Co. TN in 1847& 1848 & 1850 in Gibson Co TN ************************************************************************ It has never been proven where Nancy Clorence/Clorance Stubblefield was born 1800. some say TN, some say SC but with these families that are married into the three families coming from NC it seems to me that we might find that Nancy came from NC too. Bell family with your "Steven" Thomas Bell with two young children born in TX indicates that "Steven"Thomas Bell was married two times. Bell, b: 3/11/1873 THIS IS THE FIRST CHILD OF THIS MARRIAGE Which indicates that this is the second marriage of "Steven" Thomas Bell. Do you have the 1880 census for this family that shows the first two children that were listed in the 1870 census: Bell, Liousa - b: c. 1866 TX would be 14 yrs in 1880 Bell, Ella M - b: c. 1870 TX would be 10 yrs in 1880.
