    3. Dear Tn friends, There are many things I could say, but I will hold my tongue for now, and just say I am VERY glad my data is on my own server, so no pixies or elves can slip in during the night and leave their calling cards. While I think those on USIT should honor USIT requests, tampering in someone's page without asking is just plain wrong. What is next? This is the sort of action we should address when it is time to write our bylaws. 3. Pam and others, I don't know why you would believe that "those pixies and elves" will "zap" you. You have every right to express your opinion as anyone else in this project. So if anyone has a problem with the script being run on their county to get the required logo on it, please let us know and we'll leave it alone. And our apologies to those that have already been done, but wished we had not done so -- and to those that were so very efficient that did their own pages before we had a chance to figure out that it could even be done. 3. Hi Folks, We only got through Knox county, going alphabetically before the ftp server began to creep along and we began to slump into our respective keyboards. We will be working on it again tonight. Two things: 1. Do not add logos to your page today, unless you really really want to... 2. Give me a holler if you have already done your county, so we don't redo it. I had a list yesterday but may have missed someone who recently made the changes. 3. Hi Eddy and all, I need a little more information on this issue. Isn't Rootsweb a privately held company that donates the server space, as opposed to being a "nonprofit" company? I have little problem in sending $12 to rootsweb but I would prefer to send a little more -- *but* have the donation as a tax deduction. I recently read an old archived letter re-sent to USGEN-ALL-L where "rootsweb" claimed it was too costly to become a "nonprofit." Perhaps you can tell me if rootsweb now qualifies under IRS code 501c. Fred Smoot Eddy G. 3. Hi Everyone, Just had a "neuron spasm" and thought I'd bounce this off the folks on this list first. Many TNGenWeb counties (if not all of them) benefit from the free use of Rootsweb resources. The only income of Rootsweb is donations. What would be wrong if, once a year, say September, we had a donation drive for Rootsweb. We could ask for volunteered donations of $1 or $2 to Rootsweb to help provide the on-line genealogical community with better services and resources. No arm twisting and no name taking. This is just an idea so please don't come back and "byte" my head off. I just figured Tennessee could take the lead in this effort to help out a great group of folks who help us out. 1. [TNGEN-L] ATTENTION!
    2. Nancy Cole
    3. Hi y'all, The pixies and elves have been busy. If you visit your pages on USIT today you will find that the new Usit logo has magically been added to each and every page in your directory and subdirectories. Jim our incredible sys admin (and my son, so of course I am not prejudiced) wrote a script which added the information to the bottom of your pages, thus saving us all many hours of work. My apologies to those folks who had already done their pages, but it took a bit of time to get the script together. One small drawback.....some of you will now have TWO USIT logos on your main pages, but I hope you will agree that fixing and sending a few index pages for reload is a small price to pay for NOT having to redo your whole site. It is 5 a.m MDT now and we are up to the G's, so if your pages are not done yet, they will be soon. [NOTE] Please remember to down load your revised pages from the browser when you make changes or view source and copy the code to your pages at home. Hi Folks, A while back we were talking about non-profit incorporation of our project. Bridgett, Fred Smoot and I have looked at the pros and cons of incorporating as a non-profit and it appears that from our viewpoints that it would be a good thing for the project. A couple of points: *If you decide to pursue the incorporation, there will be no cost to you for the filing fees. *This question is simply in regard to improving the project internally and would not affect our relationship with USGenWeb. Before we go further we need the opinion of all of you, the County Coordinators, who are the backbone of the project. So I am asking for a straw poll.
