Good morning all, The time has come to start the work on Bylaws. When a rough version is ready (within two weeks, I hope) it will be placed on line for you examination. We will use the TNCHAT-L list for comments. You should reply to that list so we all see your suggestions. During the next two weeks, I will pose some questions on the TNCHAT-L so that I can see the direction we should go. Some of the questions will cover the very basic core structure of our organization. Your participation is important. I will start today with my first questions. If your are not subscribed to TNCHAT-L, please consider that option. Bridgett Smith waits in anticipation for to subscribe you. You may ask questions, submit suggestions and make comments. TNCHAT-L will be an open forum. See yall on TNCHAT. Fred Smoot

TNGenWeb's Bulletin Board which is located at http://www.tngenweb.org/bbs/ The purpose of this bbs is for folks to have an area to post questions that don't seem to apply to any of our other pages. For example: What was the age of a male to be included on the poll tax list? What were the requirements for a Justice of the Peace? How old did one have to be to marry or witness documents? Where was Hicksville in 1803? Why can't I find a census record for 1810? This is for the public to use, of course you can ask your questions also <G>. I will probably be posting the announcement to TNRoots and to Roots-L probably tomorrow, but wanted y'all to see it first. On the intro page, I have stated that the site will be monitored by some of our county hosts. You may do so if you wish, however, this choice is up to you. However, be rest assured if I find a question on the site that has gone unanswered, I will be asking it here <G>. Not having lived in TN for 49 years, and only been researching for a little more than 4 or 5 -- I admit I don't know all the answers to the questions that have been sent my way. I am hoping folks will utilize this page, both to ask their questions and to answer them. Please check out when you have time, and let me know what you think about it. I just visited a link I had to my GEDCOM file that had been on Travellers Southern Families website for about 5 years. They have removed all their GEDCOM files. Really a shame but I have the GED2HTML program and can convert and luckily being a featured page on Geocities with over 14,000 mg of space will add my files to my geocities account as soon as I can. The newer browsers has the Geocities Watermark and will not pull up an advertising page so even the Geoguide may soon not be required. Just though this might be of interest to some. Ya know, Diane, you all in Sumner are my heroes and I am wondering now if I noticed your idea, filed it away, and then "rethunked" of it!!! LOL!!!! Typical absentminded me would do that. I left the house on Sunday about 10:30 AM PDT, did not get home until Monday about 1:00 AM PDT -- if you have written to me regarding something I will get to you tomorrow morning. I know I'm bad for not sending in new things on the Union County page but I am proud of this one. The Union County page is now searchable. There are two search engines on the main page now. One spiders and index's my pages on tngenweb.org and the other my pages on rootsweb.com. Now people can come to my site enter a location or surname and find any page I have done that contains these names. Have a look. They're at the top of the page right now as is my habit with all new things. Ultimately they will move down to utilities. Chip Union County TnGenWeb http://www.tngenweb.org/union
So many of the Stewart County list subscribers and researchers are starting to come to mine and Cheryl's aid in transcribing and sharing for the website that we have added a little "award" and recognition space to the site. Hopefully, more will realize through this that we are very open to contributions. We do give contributors credit at the site of the posting, but this might make it a bit more noticeable and special for folks. Thought some of you might like to adopt the idea. You can see what we did at http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnstewar/index.htm and if you have any suggestions for making it better, let us know. Jan
