Hiya folks, My best advice is "toss your cookies." I have a 20 year old here and no matter how I rant and rave I get these offers of pornographic adventures, usually involving teen age girls. Last time it might have been me...I got disgusted with a geo cities site and took the cookies...since then, some porn and a gazillion get rich quick schemes.... If I delete all my cookie files it stops for awhile. I delete the spam and to date have killed at least 10 porn vendors e-mail accounts... abuse@whatever.com usually works very well. George et al, Well, George, I am going to make an assumption here. That assumption is that when you say "Lincoln Co TN does not consider itself separate from USGenWeb, technically or otherwise," you are really expressing your own personal opinion. Invite you to visit our state home page and at the bottom you will find links to both the Charter and Bylaws of TNGenNet Inc. http://www.tngenweb.org/ While I believe that these two documents do make us "technically (and legally) separate, the discussion of these matters should occur on our TNCHAT mailing list. Therefore, I will respond more fully there, but not right away. I am about to go stepping out with my wife, and she rates higher than political missives. Yes, I've been getting emails about porn sites --- had a few earlier, but have had more since I put GenConnect Query and Pinpoint Search on my web pages. -----Original Message----- From: Denise Waterworth <dw150641@eee.org> To: TNGEN-L@rootsweb.com <TNGEN-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Friday, January 29, 1999 6:07 PM Subject: [TNGEN-L] Mailing list abuse >Did anyone else get an advertisement for hard porn? Denise et al, I receive about 20 commercial e-mails per day. About 50% are for porn sites. I just delete them, because I am usually the only user of this computer. Here is how I believe I got on their list. I do not accept cookie files. And I don't visit porn sites. But last summer my daughter and her "half" brother visited me. The young man (age 15) asked if he could use the computer at the end of the evening. Sure, that's OK with me. And I told him not to accept the cookie files. About a week after their visit, I stared to receive the porn mail. Many said they had been sent because I had been to their web site. Ahhh, a clue. So I went to my browser's cache file and opened some graphic files. Because I am ever the skeptic, I first opened the files that that were dated when the young man used the computer. I found skateboard graphics galore - but then I found . . . well you know what I found. Do you thing that he had accepted cookie files? I do. I reckon it is just like buying from a mail order house. As soon as one gets your address, they sell it and soon you are inundated with catalogs. Fred >>>>> Denise Waterworth wrote: > > Did anyone else get an advertisement for hard porn? Did anyone else get an advertisement for hard porn? It was not addressed to me but someone at aol.com and I got 3 copies. It must have come from some mailing list I'm on but I'm not sure which one. Luckily I was the first to get the mail and not my 12 yr old son. I sent a note to abuse@burst.com which is where it said it came from. Denise
Civil War --- how did enlistment work? Was it for the duration? I didn't think so. I thought it was and in and out thing, enlist, meet muster call, mustered out if injured, real loose. Does anyone know. There must be a neat URL for this that I can pass on to my enquirer. Jane

I took a tour the other day through the home pages that are listed for our hosts on the "Getting to Know Us" page. I would like to say at this time that I knew we had talented folks within our ranks, but I didn't know how talented y'all were!!! The diversity and humor shown on these pages are just fantastic. I applaud you. BTW, if you haven't taken the tour I strongly suggest it -- you will be amazed and pleased to be associated with the folks listed so far. Am hoping others will take the time to create such a page. Before anyone asks "so where is your page?" I have been working on my homepage, at a very slow pace. I haven't had much time to do so in the past 18 months or so, it so very outdated. I will let Fred know when it's ready for viewing so he can add it to the list. Y'all do good work, Bridgett
Tim Stowell's father-in-law passed away early this AM. Time and his wife will be flying from TN to MI sometime today. My deepest sympathies go out to them for this loss. Tim probably will not be available to do uploading and such for his region -- and if he was -- he shouldn't be <G>. Please if you send your pages to be uploaded through Tim, send them on to me for the time being.
