    1. RE: State and County Research Mailing Lists
    2. Bridgett Smith
    3. There are pros and cons on this issue. There was a list established for Greene County sometime last summer [not by me, by someone else who asked my permission before establishing the list]. Although I would have rather seen an "Upper E TN Regional" type of mailing list, this list was created. I also belong to TNRoots, and when TNGreene-L was first brought online, there was some cross posting, but not a great deal. About a month ago, I noticed that the postings to TNGreene has been on the decline. I do not know if it is that time of the year, as other lists I belong to also seem to be on the wane, or what the reason is for this decline. However, during it's peak, many people found information that might not have been found otherwise. There are a couple of people on the TNGreene list, that are busy with other things, and did not want the mass of TNROOTS people to know that they would do lookups for others. But easily handled the load from the smaller list. There are many of us whose ancestors hit an area and stayed put, mine are one of them. In this respect the specific list was more beneficial than the overall list. Personally, I gained more information from the few months on the TNGreene list than I did in the 2 years I've been on the TNROOTS list. All of this is from a personal point of view of course, and this issue with it's pros and cons was debated heavily on the TNRoots list when Kay Rockett posted the idea to the list for TNGreene. On the other hand, I belong to many mailing lists pertaining to genealogy, many of which are of a general nature, and know the feeling when I get a message that someone has posted to each and every list that I belong to -- but that is what a delete key is for <G>. Take care, Bridgett At 06:58 AM 11/20/97 -0600, Jack Cross wrote: >Does each county really need it's own mailing list? Do we have the >readership to support this? 3. Does each county really need it's own mailing list? Do we have the readership to support this? Reason being is that each county having it's own mailing list could easily dilute say the Tenn Genealogy Mail-list. Many times the "cross-county-lines" assistance is what is needed. 2. Denise Waterworth
    3. The last Question of the day was so much fun, here's another one. How do you setup an email me tag that sets up the Subject line for the writer? For example, on a lookup page at the 1830 Census, when a person is asked to email me with their lookup, I'd like to make the Subject line say "Blount Co. 1830 Census Lookup". How do you do that? The CD lookup page used to do that(wish I'd looked) ... they've got a form to fill out now.

    3. Just before the url was changed on the tennessee page, I wrote to Anne and gaver her the new query page address http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/geobook.html is where you can find the Anderson Co queries. They are on the main page. And the old queries are in separate pages. That is the only way I knew to handle the queries...I got a guest book and desguised it as leaving queries and viewing queries. 3. Good question, I've not received any changes of URL's that I can find, and the one on the main query page doesn't lead anywhere. Jack, I tried uploading and accessing a ooten.ged and that did not work but an ooten.zip brought up a tag letting me download the zipped file. Presumably it works for everyone else (sometimes when I test things here at home they work because they are on my home computer). I offer a text version of my information as well as the zipped version. Ooten page: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/9407/ooten.html I've uploaded an Abbott page (including photos) on my gecocities site at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prarie/9407/abbott.html and I'll do Brewer, Brickey, and Wilkerson later this week. After I do I'll submit a page for Blount County to access them and offering others the same option. I'm looking for ways to offer people more information but I don't have time to input much new information. I've already got this information so I just need to upload it to my geocities site and create pages to access the informaton. I've been working on the 1830 census for months now off & on trying to get that in a database so I can get it online. (Found out that I only had 1/2 the census so I had to get some more information.) A Gary Russell offered information from the Russell Cemeteries in Blount in which his relative copied down all the tombstones. HURRAH! It should be coming in in a day or too and I'll send it to you to upload. Denise
