    1. Connection problems
    2. Bridgett Smith
    3. With the weather here in Las Vegas being nasty at the time, I have had connection problems all day, whether it be to get e-mail, sending it (hoping this goes) or connection to USIT via FTP to upload files. If anyone has sent me files to upload (I think I've received 2 today) and or to change a URL on a page. The URL's have been changed, but I cannot get to USIT to upload files. I just wanted everyone to know that I haven't been ignoring you, just fighting with my internet connections today. This happens with me occasionally, as I live in an old part of town where the telephone lines were the original ones installed, probably back in the late 1940's and causes static in my phone lines, which in turn causes my modem to disconnect. Please bear with me on this chain of events, this chain of events doesn't happen that often but when it does, it is most agrevating. Hope each and everyone of you have the best Thanksgiving ever ! 3. At this time of year, we all think of the Pilgrims, Turkey,& Pumpkin Pie. Many of us reflect on our Ancsstors & especially those of us who can trace our lineage back to the Pilgrims. Well, Caleb Johnson has a great web page on the Mayflower & the Pilgrims. Check it out at..... http://members.aol.com/calebj/mayflower.html Be sure also to check his sub pages "Mayflower, 1620" for Genealogy info, as well as the "Criminal Histories of some of the Pilgrims" page, for a lighter (darker ?) side of the Pilgrims. -- Jess Lewis >> http://www.cafes.net/jlewis/ <<

    2. Hi, I just visited this site and read some of their goals. Wonder why they are doing this? They don't want copyrighted material and you give them permission to distribute and handle the records. Do you suppose they plan to publish? Seems to me that whoever gives them material is turning it completely over to them. Personally, I would not share my information with them. I could not find a real address...only a cyber address. 3. What I'd also like to see is that the state page ask people to visit the county pages first instead of emailing queries directly to the CC. I have a form up for Hamilton and James that format the queries for easy pasting which isn't the case for those emailed directly to me. 3. The new autobot for our query system is just about in place. What is needed now is for those CC's that are NOT DOING THEIR OWN QUERIES to contact Nancy Cole ([email protected]), and give the name and address of the person who IS DOING them. If you do not respond, your queries will come to you by default. If you are handling queries for a catagory other than a current county, you need to send your information to Nancy also. Right now this seems to be the only hold up as to getting this up and running, so it is important that you notify Nancy with this information ASAP. 3. Hi everyone, I signed Blount County up for a mailing list if anyone else is interested. I'll let you know how much interest there is after a couple of months. Loudon, Sevier, and perhaps Knox counties are very closely related to Blount so those counties might want to link to the list. If so email me and I'll send you the information. Does anyone know the new address for the TN Roots Mailing List? If so, could you send it...mine is outdated! Denise

    3. Hi everyone, We have new people joining our project. Adopting Cheatam County will be Tim Hite ([email protected]). Tim is with the MOGenWeb Project so he has an understanding of how things work on the National level. His current page for Chariton County MO is located at: http://www.rootsweb.com/mocharit/ David Snow has promised a page up for Stewart County by Thanksgiving and working with him in this endeavor is his new co-host Jan Philpot ([email protected]). Jan is a librarian in Stewart County (I hope I have that right). David also has Houston County and as with Stewart he has a cohost for that county also, Susan Gore ([email protected]). Susan is the Librarian and Archivist for the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Memphis. Tim, Jan and Susan welcome to the TNGenWeb project and feel free to post any questions you have to the list. There are many of us here who are willing to help others who need it. 1. Re: Regional or County Lists
    2. David L. Snow
    3. Our regional list, DanvilleCrossing-L, which covers Stewart, Houston, Humphreys, Benton & Henry Counties has been quite successful. The majority of folks on this list are not on TNROOTS as they do not have in interest in the vast majority of the posts. These counties are small and do not have a large population base, but the number of individuals throughout the country whose ancestral families came from or past through these counties is quite large. They typically are not interested in the other areas of Tennessee as these counties were their destinations from North Carolina, Virginia, etc., before their families moved on to Texas, Missouri, etc. There are ebbs & flows to the posting traffic. Weekends are the heaviest as you would expect. Mid-week is kinda dead. I've noticed that although we still have "lurkers" most folks post, unlike the larger lists. I've also noticed a "sense of family" amongst the participants. However, there still is a desire & demand for specific county information & communication, so we have opened a "chat room" and are scheduling specific times & topics on a county basis in order to fill this demand. Anyway, works for us along the lower Tennessee River. Dave ===================================================================== David L.
