Everyone, I want to let you know that today has not been a very happy one for me. Most of you know that I have worked hard on this project, an awful lot behind the scenes type of work so you might not realize it afterall. However, being named State Coordinator under the present circumstances is not the greatest feeling, I assure you. I am hoping all of you received the message from Billie with the subject of Administrative details, as she didn't send it directly to the mailing list address I am not sure who received it and who didn't. If anyone wants a copy I'll be glad to forward it on to you. In her message Billie mentions our status with USIT. I have contacted them through e-mail, although by the time it was received they probably were already closed for the day. I hope they will keep us on, I feel like they would. If blows comes to blows and we have to move, Rootsweb is the option and in a state of emergency, sites are created almost immediately for stranded counties. However, let's not panic until we've heard something from USIT. This will probably put a hold on the new query system until we hear from our host. I have written to the Regional Coordinators indicating that I need their help in this hour of transition, but I also need help from all of you. I need to be notified of any on going projects and please notify your RC's if you are having problems. Today has been hectic to say the least, but I do want you to know that there will be no major changes in the way we do things. I have asked for a volunteer from the RC's for one of them to be the Asst. State Coordinator, something I've always thought we needed. Not just someone who will handle things while away. I am hoping that one of them will volunteer and an announcement can be made shortly. Please be patient with me while I adjust to this change in my duties. I feel like if we pull together, we can over come these changes. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have a question I will be glad to answer it if I can, and if not will try to find the answer for you as quickly as I can. My Vote for how to Handle the State Coordinator position.. I think that nobody should do it for over a year at a time, primarily because it is a high stress job that can wear a person out. Case in point, Texas, for one. I think each Current state coordinator should be grooming the next state coordinator for the full year. Most of the people in the group have no idea (thankfully) the headaches that are involved with wearing the crown. I don't think democracy should have anything to do with the state coordinator, I'm all for a monarchy, and only a acting coordinator knows the qualities that are necessary for the person they pass the hat to. And, just to make myself perfectly clear, I will help anyone in any way possible, but there is no way I ever want to be the Tennessee state coordinator. As Always, Anne
David Snow has asked me to announce that the Stewart County page is up. It can be found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnstewar/index.htm We will be making the page "prettier" and more meaningful now. Hope Billie can see and hear me standing and clapping. I came on board June 1996, not knowing one durn thing about html tags or what they mean and Billie was there to encourage and help. What started as a little project has grown into a really great resource. All the coordinators from Tennessee - top on down - should be very proud. All things considered, we've had relatively few problems. I haven't seen much childish bickering and I've not seen anyone trying to "take control". While on that subject, USIT.NET has been absolutely wonderful!! Nothing has been said about the space our project takes and the content. It speaks well of all of us. Like the Energizer Bunny, we keep going and going and going....... Billie, thank you for all you've done. You deserve a rest and I know you'll be there when called upon for help and advise. How about being able to upload our updates and new pages ourselves! Even though those are doing it now are doing a great job, it would take a lot of burden off them. This is just a note to let you know that I've replaced Billie as state coordinator with Bridgett Smith. This is not a step taken lightly, but Billie's communication problems have come to be nearly insurmountable. I've spent a month trying to work out the problems with her, but either she isn't receiving my mail or not responding to it, more often than not. Billie has done a great deal of really magnificent work with this project, which I would be the last one to ever want forgotten. But at this moment in her life, other problems appear to have taken priority, which may be as it needs to be.... I'm sure Bridgett will do an excellent job. She's been doing really impressive work for the last month or so, essentially trying to handle those things Billie wasn't handling without the authority or capability to do so; now that she has those things, I'm sure that working together you'll be able to iron out the problems that you have had. megan -- PLEASE NOTE URLS BELOW: [email protected] * [email protected] Megan Zurawicz, National Coordinator USGenWeb http://www.usgenweb.net -- http://www.usgenweb.org
Ted: FANTASTIC !!! Now we are only down to 2 orphans, then we'll be 100% adopted. If two of these counties are adopted that will bring our orphans down to 3. However, there are several counties that have been adopted with no page up yet. I am not talking about recent adoptions, I am talking about those who have volunteered to be the CC of a county and have not had a page up for these counties in over a month. Thanks everyone for replying. It must have been noise in my telephone lines, when they finally quieted down I got to the FTP site, no problem.
