And this has nothing to do with how well Bridgett will handle the duties, since I know she will do a good job. This is all about how this whole thing was handled. It is my understanding that no attempt was made to contact Billie by phone, only by e-mail (while knowing that she sometimes has trouble getting e-mail), and that really stinks, to put it bluntly. -------------------------------------------+------------------------ Charles A. I have been told this morning that Megan gave me two hours' notice, in the middle of the day, in the middle of the week, with my known e-mail problems, that she was going to replace me with Bridgett. That really sucks. I was only hurt and humiliated before. Now I'm gone. I love Bridgett and can never thank her enough for all the support she gave me while I was project coordinator. I know she will do a wonderful job as coordinator. Likewise, I can never thank enough the rest of the project team members who gave unending hours of work toward my dream of creating the single best Internet resource for Tennessee history and genealogy research. That dream will happen, but it will be elsewhere. Watch for a URL announcement soon. As far as I can identify for certain, I've removed every page I created from the www.usit.net/tngenweb/ path. I've replaced them with notifications that the page has been removed, so people won't get the 404 errors. As a kindness, I've left the counties.htm and the queries.htm files intact because Bridgett has done so much work on them lately. I also changed the main TGW page to reflect Bridgett's status. I don't have any copyright interest in that page. <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> <-> Billie R. She was notified? How? How many e-mail messages went out? From whom? I have scanned my entire set of mailboxes (55MB) for mail from Megan, and nothing came in regarding this until I got the message everyone got. The world has been aware of my e-mail problems over the past few months, whether from Eudora crashes, USIT upgrades, or whatever. It doesn't make sense to rely on a known-buggy method when attempting to resolve something that has major impact. I got no phone call, fax, or postcard, nor did anyone attempt to reach me through my husband's e-mail account (at UT, it's extremely stable). Public humiliation isn't funny. It's not really nice to yank something away from a person who has lived and breathed for it for 18 months. For most of that time, I have spent 10-15 hours a day in front of my computer, working on the project, much to the detriment of my family, career, and personal life. The only complaint anyone's had about my efforts on this project were with my e-mail. I have been doing my dead-level best to resolve that issue as quickly and inexpensively as possible. I kept you and Bridgett apprised of my work in that regard. I don't mind the fact that I'm not TNGenWeb project coordinator any longer. God just sped up my personal time schedule a bit. As I've said to many of the people who've written, the worst part of the whole thing was not being given the opportunity to resign gracefully. My personal and professional integrity have been besmirched (I love that word <g>) because I wasn't given that opportunity. C'est la vie...... Life goes on -- the sun is shining again, and the fog has lifted from my path. At 09:31 PM 12/4/1997 -0600, Ms. Piglet wrote: >Yes, Billie was notified before it happened. Hi folks, As you probably realize I have been up to my ears with things to do because of the change over. First of all, I understand that many of you feel cheated in the ability to vote on who you would like to be your State Coordinator, and believe me when I tell you I feel the same way. You can ask your Regional Coordinator that the first message I sent to them was that I would stay on as State Coordinator for a certain period of time (have not fully decided how long); at which time I felt that the CC's had a right to express their wishes as to who they would like to be their SC. Many of the thoughts expressed in this forum are mine also. Second of all, Nancy Cole has agreed to be the Asst. State Coordinator, I appreciate her volunteering to help me during this crazy period. Her e-mail address is [email protected] and would appreciate it if anyone who sends me an e-mail would also send her a copy of it by cc. That way both of us know what is going on. Also, probably a cc to your Regional Coordinator would be best also. I know some of the coordinators now have pages on rootsweb.com. This notice just came in: >STATE COORDINATORS: When a county has attained a new account at >RootsWeb, Please remind the new CC to notify me when the Home Page is up and >running. The "me" in this instance is Tom Hembrey and his e-mail is [email protected], he is the Guest Page Webmaster at Rootsweb. We have new people and new URL's: Union County has been adopted by Chip Brown, e-mail [email protected], Union County's website's URL is http://members.aol.com/thagamizer/index.html (it is in rough form right now). Welcome Chip !!! Ted Hitt's new Decatur county page is up http://www.usit.net/tngenweb/decatur/ Benton County's new URL is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnbenton/index.htm although David hasn't sent the url to the query page <G> Cheatham County's page isn't up yet but Ted Hitt has a co-host who is part of the Cheatham County Historical and Genealogical Society and his name is Jim Allen, e-mail address [email protected] Welcome Jim !!! Please be sure if you have links to the above counties you either change them or add them to your pages. On the subject of Microsoft's FrontPage. I am not familiar with this application. I don't know how many on this project has this application, nor if the cost of obtaining this application is steep. I will have to check into the USIT situation tomorrow on what they may offer (or maybe one of the RC's can do this and report back), if their only alternative is to have this application for self updating and loading of pages then this narrows our capabilities some I would think. But let's not worry about crossing that bridge until we find out everything first. My contact information (other than e-mail) if you need to get in touch with me is: Bridgett Edwards Smith 2309-B Stewart Avenue Las Vegas, NV 89101 (702) 382-9409 (an answering machine answers ALWAYS, if you say who you are and I am home, which is 99% of the time, I will pick up) I also have ICQ, my # is 4377927, PowWow user name Bridgett, and AOL's Instant Messenger, user name GFS Gidget (I work in the genealogy forum on AOL and this is my work name there, long story). AOL's Instant Messenger is good for all platforms, although there is no conferencing available. The other two applications can't be used with 3.11 or MAC, however you can set up conferencing. ICQ has a MAC version, however it is only good for e-mailing back and forth messages quickly. (I have a close cousin on a MAC is the only reason I know what can be used and can't). I think I've covered everything for now. Let's keep working together to keep the TNGenWeb project one of the best projects going in the USGenWeb organization.
