    3. First of all I will tell you that our links to Research Helps page is back up and running. It can be found at http://www.usit.net/tngenweb/tnlists.html Thanks go to Nancy Cole for being able to get a list for us together quickly. The following pages, or at least these are all I can find that are now not available in the TNGenWeb files on USIT are: The Great Warrior Path Gilbert Imlay's Intro to the State of TN Lost State of Franklin An Introduction to Historic Land Laws Tennesse Histories On-Line East TN Historical Center First Families of TN Certificate Some Records of Slave Births & Sales The link to TN's GenWeb activity (the file is genweb.htm) is off, so is any information on how to adopt a county, and any of the help files that were up to help you with your pages. Many of these files will be replaced, although it will take time. If you have linked any files to either Jefferson or Hawkins County, those files are no longer on the server either. Jackie Robinson, Cocke County Host, has taken on Hawkins county and that URL now is http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnhawkin/ A new main page went up this morning, the new link page is up and the county list page has changed. 3. Morning y'all.... Thanks to everyone that ventured into the #tngenweb channel last night! For those of you who left us to watch the news <g> - and those who didn't make it to IRC last night -- you missed several more hours of fun and fellowship (not to mention, the world's *best* virtual ice cream, cake and jello - come by tonight and find out what I'm rambling about!) If you'd like to join us again tonight, we'll be on the Starchat IRC network, in the TNGenWeb chat channel from 9-10 CST. Set your IRC software to one of starchat's servers (I use milkyway.starchat.net) on port 6667. A list of starchart servers can be found: http://www.starchat.net/servers.htm a list of servers, followed by the port number(s)... Hope to see you there! Jim, I basically agree with your suggestions, but anything has to be better than the way this was handled. The heart of the issue is, as you state, that the national GENWEB coordinator should not have the ability to remove and appoint state coordinators at will. If the national coordinator thinks there is a problem, he or she should contact the state organization for resolution. -------------------------------------------+------------------------ Charles A. 3. Hi folks, Well it took a little bit, but at least there is another main page up for the project. I hope that it meets with your approval. Hopefully, by Monday we shall have most of the important pages back on line, i.e links, etc. The main page, when you get to it, is just temporary but much better than what was there. Please recheck all your links and make sure they aren't going to a page that is no longer connected with the project. So far I haven't received any e-mail that started out with "what happend to . . . 3. Hi everyone, First of all, Thank You Billie. Billie gave me lots of help and advice when I first started the Blount County pages last year. Welcome Bridget. I'm sure you will do a good job and I'll support you in any way I can. Jim, the only problem that I see with your election system is that many of us don't know what all the SC's job requires and what do we do if that person is not truely qualified to do the job? Electing Assistant SC's might be a good idea...if we have 2 or 3 then if one of them isn't up to the job then they have time to learn or freedom to resign. In the future, perhaps a beter system would be having the National Coordinator suggest 1 or 2 people involved in the project who are qualified to do the job and then ask for our input or support before it is official. There seem to be a lot of toes stepped on here and that might avoid this situation in the future. 1. What's the point?
    2. Mary Floy Katzman
    3. May I ask what's the point of linking to the TnGenWeb page? Where did all the wonderful links go that were there? How can they ever be replaced? I used to be so proud of the work done by us working on the Volunteer State. Are the counties next? Checking other states, in my opinion Tennessee was the best from the TnGenWeb Home page through the counties. This whole thing reminds of the mess last year. Remember Kentucky and Arkansas? and I remember VERY well what happened to someone who was a cc for some counties in North Carolina and Virginia. He was one of my mentors (Billie was another) and my inspiration. Those counties are not the same in anyway. I think it would be a good idea to hear from the persons/person who did this. By whose authority was Billie removed??? This isn't fair to any of us and certainly not to Bridget. Although I wish her the best, I wouldn't be in her shoes for all the money in the world. Billie was there in the beginning and if it weren't for her help and encouragement the Tennessee pages wouldn't be what they are today. I'm going to miss her and somehow I hope to stay in touch with her. 3. Charles without getting up on my soap box you have expressed an issue that I whole heatedly embrace. With new technology, when folks send an email message it is automatically assumed that the intended recipient got it and if they didn't it was their fault. Heck the US Post Office even loses mail. Now add that to the fact that the internet and internet mail is contingent on a system of volunteer computers and volunteers as well as private, commercial, and independent access providers it is a wonder the whole system works as well as it does. Even the "reply requested" features only indicate that the message arrived at the end server not that the person really got it. Finally the assumption that it is the fault of the end user is just as absurd, OK I will now get back off the box but I run into this notion so often on a daily basis with novices that it gets to be a bone of irritation with me. -----Original Message----- From: Charles Reeves, Jr. <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Cc: [email protected] <[email protected]>; [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Thursday, December 04, 1997 7:02 PM Subject: Re: Tennessee state coordinator >At 4:12 PM -0600 12/4/97, Athol K Foster wrote: >... >>What I would like to know is, what authority do you have to relieve Billie >>and appoint Bridgett?
