    3. Hi, Following two themes, tracing female ancestors, and Native American ancestors. Joshua Winchester "Dock" GARRETT Born:  20 March 1844     Died:  10 October 1925 His first wife was, Mary "Polly" Ann KIRK Born:  12 November 1850     Died:  16 September 1886 His second wife was, Mary "Pollie" Sue PATRICK Born:  18 March 1868     Died:  26 January 1942 Joshua Winchester "Dock" GARRETT's parents were: Joshua Bernard GARRETT Born:  1805     Died:  1848 Nancy COPE Born:  1805     Died:  1851 Nancy COPE was full-blooded Cherokee Indian, making Joshua Winchester "Dock" GARRETT, 1/2 blooded Cherokee Indian. Joshua Winchester "Dock" GARRETT's 1st wife, Mary "Polly" Ann KIRK, was also 1/2 blooded Cherokee Indian. Joshua Winchester "Dock" GARRETT's 2nd wife, Mary "Pollie" Sue PATRICK, was full-blooded Cherokee Indian. Mary "Pollie" Sue PATRICK, her parents and grandparents, escaped from the "Trail of Tears", as they were on the route.  They were members of the "Paint" clan.  They hid out in the area SW of McMinnville, Tennessee.  Her parents never took a "white man's name", they retained their Cherokee names, and died when she was 12 years old.  She was taken in by a family of KIRKPATRICK's, in Clay County, Tennessee, and raised by them.  She took the name Mary PATRICK, so she only used part of the KIRKPATRICK's name.  When she married Joshua Winchester "Dock" GARRETT, he changed her name to Mary "Pollie Sue" GARRETT.  He called her, "Pollie", as he did his first wife.  Pollie Sue was a mid-wife, who delivered many children.  Joshua Winchester "Dock" GARRETT was a "Medicine Man", which is why people called him, "Dock". So, how do I trace these women's ancestry? How do I find out more information, about Joshua Winchester GARRETT's mother, Nancy COPE? How do I find out more information about Joshua Winchester GARRETT, as far as his Cherokee heritage?  Was he considered a "Native American" or "Cherokee Indian"? How do I find out more about Mary "Polly Ann" KIRK?  Mary "Pollie Sue" PATRICK? Is there anyone, researching this particular line? Thank you for your time, consideration, and cooperation, I truly appreciate it. Sincerely, Stan Arney Wichita, KS
