Sarah, Think I owe you an apology, a few years ago I was kind of short with you in one of my e-mails. It was not an intentional thing nor did I mean for it to sound that way. Have no excuse but at the time one of my sisters had a terminal illness and was trying to help take care of her and at the same time my youngest daughter ran into some hard times and had my 2 youngest grandsons aged 4 & 7 at that time. I have felt very bad about this ever since and hope you will except my apology. We are from the same line my ggrandfather Joel was brother to your Susannah (think I have this right.) The book you are talking about was that John's bible? I used to visit Wilma and talk to her by phone she and my mother were 1st cousins and she always said I was her 1st cousin once removed. Also have all of her books but 2. Vanlandingham researchers think Nancy was married to George Vanlandingham son of Dawson. I cannot agree or disagree with this as I have not found any proof of it. Do know that Nancy's father James was married 1st to Mary Magdalene Pile and they had 3 or 4 sons and then he married Elizabeth (possibly Vanlandingham) and had Nancy and her siblings. Would have to find my copies of court records I found at the library, but think John also had a daughter Nancy. Sarah these are just my thoughts, but have wondered if Nancy was married to a Vanlandingham why would she marry under Cauthon? And if she is the one that married Peter why didn't she name any of her children after her side of the family? This is 2 of the reasons I had reservations about our Peter Reagan being married to Nancy. You have the same children for Peter Jr. as I do. Noticed that your birth year for Caleb was 1799, a few years ago another researcher had that birth year also. Think this possible but have always put 1801 what Wilma had, since Peter married in 1800 (?). In a book by A. R. Hogue it shows that Peter had another man stand in for him in War of 1812 (think the man's name was Skipper) and Peter would be credited for serving. I do not have a will for Peter Sr. or Jr. Wilma stated that she had hired someone to clear out the old homestead and a lot of family information was thrown away and burned before she realized what they were throwing away. Let me know your thoughts, enjoy having someone to hash out these question with. Have a great day! Pat
Pat, Don't think twice about an apology. I never felt any offense. I'm glad we can put heads together on this. It is amazing that we have so many little bits of information. Wilma had a hand written (it looked like on canvas) book of exercises to copy that had been John Reagan's. A lot of them seemed to be math problems. I was visiting Wilma with Colleen Manz, another cousin who lives in Utah and was visiting TN. I feel very honored to have seen Wilma. If the Hogue book is correct and Peter was buying his way out of the War of 1812 in TN , then was he in TN that early? Have you found him in east TN anywhere before the land purchase in Overton/Fentress? What is the last date in Wilkes Co, NC that you have? I spent several days a few years ago in the Knoxville genealogy library. It was great fun, but these Reagans are elusive. I spent a long time in Knoxville looking at addresses for undelivered mail during those times. It will take weeks at such a place to be sure we haven't missed anything. Sarah
