Hi Fabian, Mary Elizabeth Blake and John Stewart were my grandparents. My mother Avo was their daughter. They both died when mom was 10 or 11. Mom used to tell us stories about Wolf River and the things her mother and her grandmother talked about. I can't remember who mom said had the indian baby but I have heard her talk about it. She said the woman was captured by the indians and when the men came home from the war--they went to get her. The indian let her go but wouldn't let her have the child. Mom said the mother would walk to see the little boy and it would take her all day. I have heard that Joe Blake was an Indian I've never been able to prove it but I've always heard this. His mother was born in GA and turned up in TN somewhere around 1830. Some census has her as Dorcus Blakley, one as Bleakley, and I believe there was one as Dorcus Blakeslee. Linda has a military record of one son that says his mother's maiden name was Dorcus Laury or Lawry. She said the name was hard to make out but she thinks that is what it is.
