Ruby Cooper Smith (b. June 18, 1934, d. August 29, 1997, buried Green Hill Cemetery, Overton County) (wife of James E. Smith - obituary below) was the daughter of Joseph Cooper and Ollie E. King, both buried at King (Beatytown) Cemetery in Fentress County, TN Does anyone know who were the parent's of James E. Smith's mother -- Betty Leona Garrett? Brenda ------------------------------ LIVINGSTON -- Funeral services for James E. Smith, 74, of New Castle, will be held today, Thursday, Sept. 7, at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Alpine with full military honors provided by the Honor Guard from the James T. Davis Memorial Post 5062. Family will receive friends today, Thursday, Sept. 7, from 2 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Mr. Smith died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, at Ball Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. He was born Feb. 12, 1932, in Overton County to the late George Evans and Betty Leona Garett Smith. Mr. Smith was a retired factory worker and farmer. He was a member of Charity Baptist Church. Mr. Smith enjoyed watching and listening to sports on TV and radio. He loved fishing and rabbit and squirrel hunting. Mr. Smith also enjoyed whittling wood and playing checkers and Rook. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends as well as special friends Chester Raines, Lowell Beaty and Charles Linder. His family includes his wife of seven years, Janet Ruth Smith; four daughters and a son-in-law, Doris Smith, Reta Guffey and Debbie and Ed Shelton, all of New Castle, Betty Smith of California; a son and daughter-in-law, J.E. and Lisa Smith of New Castle; a sister, Lucille Franklin of Chicago Heights, Ill.; a brother and sister-in-law, George E. and Jesse Smith of Wheatfield, Ind.; two sisters-in-law, Nova Smith and Alberta Lowe and husband Clyde, all of New Castle; two brothers-in-law, Fred Enchos of Muncie and Gerald Kissick and wife Violet of New Castle; a first cousin, Cluey Smith of Blountsville; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Cooper Smith; a daughter, Gail Ann Smith; two sisters, Odell Beaty and Edith Enchos; and two brothers, Gilbert and Clevis Smith.
