Hi, Marilyn, My Uncle Elmer had two surviving siblings, a sister and a brother. The Voiles in the Armathwaite area descend from a second William and Elizabeth Voiles and I have not been able to determine the relationship of the two Williams, if any, to this day. The "Armathwaite" William married Elizabeth Goddard Allen. Elizabeth Goddard first married (Steve?) Allen and they had several children. I don't know what happened to Mr. Allen but Elizabeth then married the Armathwaite William Voiles and they raised her children who went by the name of Voiles. My ancestor William Voiles married Elizabeth Ward and they moved to Fentress Co., TN in the late 1850's and were in the 1860 FC Census. As usual, I'm giving too long an answer. Anyway, to answer your question, my William Voiles family has always been more Allardt oriented and several of them are buried in Old Barger Cemetery and several in the Allardt Cemetery. Of course, I think members of both families bounced back and forth across the Scott Co. line as jobs opened up. If I've managed to confuse everyone, ask questions. Helen
While the Voiles tie into my family through cousins and inlaws maybe someday I will get that far. The Voiles that are from inlaws of cousin and and an aunt are the ones from Armathwaite. I remember them from their wonderful voices. I heard members of the family sing often at Fellowship Babtist Church. I went back to Bruce York's Fentress County information just to refresh my memory. Is Bruce correct when he says your William died in Lebanon, Ky? I wish we could figure out if and how these two Williams are connected. Of course I have seen in some of the old families when a man was married twice he would have sons with the same name by each wife; particularly when that was his given name. Also brothers often name their sons the same if it is a family name being passed down. If they all used different given names this quest would be easier and less frustrating. But then it might not hold our interest so long.
