Pat, In studying the census' of Wilkes, Overton, and Fentress this this is what I have for Joel and Rachels sons: 1810 Wilkes NC Joel has 2 son b. 1800-1810. Possible sons: Joel b. ?, Jacob Samuel 1804, William abt 1808, or Larkin if he is born 1810. 1820 Overton TN Joel has 1 male b 1802-04 (Jacob Samuel). 1 male b. 1810-1820 (Larkin). But where is the other male of 1800-10 of 1810 Wilkes? The oldest he can be is 20 according to census, not yet old enough to be on his own lest he be born 1799, then at age 21 he would be old enough to be on his own. But if Larkin was b. 1810 then the two sons are accounted for in 1810 Wilkes. But what about Joel Reagan and William? Joel is supposed to be the s/o Joel Sr and Wm could possibly be a son since he is living near widow Rachel in 1830 Fentress. Here are Joels possible sons b. bef 1820 1) Joel b. ? 2) Possibly William b. 1801-1810. He is listed 1830 pg 16 with widow Rachel. Therefore, he may be a son. According to his HH he is yet to have children. Therefore, he was probably abt 1808/09. 3) Jacob Samuel b. abt 1804 4) Larkin b. bet 1810 and 1820. Also I note that your Caleb was b. between 1801-1810. I think that your Caleb was b. 1801 instead of 1799. He is listed on pg 4 with Peter Jr b. abt 1799/1780. Therefore, Caleb is more likely the son of Peter Jr. What year did you say Peter married? Now that you mentioned Rachel Reagan 1830 Fenress on pg 16. I question why the census taker didnt list Jacob Samuel as Head of HH instead of Rachel? Here is my thought on the 1830 Fenress HH of Rachel Reagan: 2 males < 5; I believe one of them is Thomas Reagan b. 1827, possible s/o Jacob Samuel. Not sure abt the identity of the other male. 1 male 5-10; possibly Thomas Reagan b. 1822, s/o Rachel. He is not old enough to be on his own. 1 male 15-20; Larkin Reagan s/o Jacob Samuel. 1 male 20-30; Jacob Samuel Reagan b. abt 1804/06 1 female 5-10; one of the unidentified daughters of Jacob Samuel. 1 female 15-20; Rachel had a daughter b. 1810-1820. 1 female 20-30; Elizabeth Pennycuff, w/o Jacob Samuel 1 female 50-60; Rachel Gwinn Reagan, widow. According to Wilma R. Pinckley their birth years were Joel b. 1774, Wm. b. 1776, Charles b. 1778 and Peter Jr. b. 1779. Think these years are probably close. By 1800 Joel and Wm. are married and still in Wilkes: Joel has 2 daughters under 10 and Wm. has 1 son under 10 and 1 daughter under 10. Peter and Rebeckah are living with Joel. In 1810 Joel has 2 sons under 10, 1 daughter under 10 and 2 daughters 10-16. Wm. has 1 son under 10 and 1 son 10-16 but no daughters. The daughter from 1800 possibly married young, family rumor says she died in a fire.(you know how rumors are though) 1820 shows Joel in Overton Co. with Peter Sr. & Jr. it shows he has one son to 10 and one son 16 to 18, could this be Samuel and Larkin. Wm. Ragan is in Wilkes Co. NC shows he has one son to 10, 3 sons 10-16, 2 sons 16 -26, and 1 daughter to 10. By 1830 Joel has passed away and believe his wife to be Rachel that is listed. It shows 2 males under 5, 1 male 5-10, 1 male 15-20 (Larkin ?) and 1 male 20-30 (Samuel ?), 1 female 5-10, 1 female 15-20 (daughter ?), 1 female 20-30 ( Samuel's wife?) and 1 female 50-60 (Rachel) this is only food for thought, but do you think it possible that after his father's death he lived with his mother? Because by 1840 seems she has passed away. Peter Srs. son Charles was said to have lived in Overton Co. but I could never find him, in 1830 census he is in Wilkes Co. NC with 1 son to 5, 1 son 10-15, 1 son 20-30 and 2 males 50-60 (wonder if one of these could be Wm. as I couldn't find him) he also has 1 daughter 15-20 and his wife 50-60. Let me know your thoughts.
