A Fentress County marriage record shows that James Marion (Marion) Hinds (b. April 06, 1881, d. February 18, 1958, buried at Rinnie Cemetery, Cumberland County, TN) married a Sadie "Petty" on October 27, 1905 (b. December 22, 1886, d. December 22, 1956, buried at Rinnie Cemetery). I believe her surname is actually "Penticuff". I know that sometimes people with the Penticuff or Pennycuff name have been referred to as "Penty" or "Penny" -- even some census records show this. Anyway, I believe that Sadie Estella is the daughter of David A. Penticuff and Louise Clementine (Clementine) Creselious (both buried at Fairview Cemetery), but am unsure about this. See the following census record: The 1900 Census: Fentress County, TN: ED# 16, District 7, Page 5B, Household 93 (June 8, 1900) - PENNYCUFF, David, head, May 1854, age 46, TN,TN,TN; married 19 years - Louisa C., wife, June 1863, age 36, TN,TN,TN; married 19 years; 6 children, 6 living - Eli B., son, Dec. 1883, age 16, TN,TN,TN - Sousan, daughter, Feb. 1884, age 16, TN,TN,TN - Martha J.C., daughter, May 1885, age 16, TN,TN,TN - Sada E., daughter, Dec. 1886, age 13, TN,TN,TN - Perlley L., daughter, Oct. 1890, age 9, TN,TN,TN - Jefferson L., son, Aug 1893, age 6, TN,TN,TN - Maggie R., daughter, July 1897, age 2, TN,TN,TN Note, that it is "odd" that there are 7 children in the household, but the census showed that Clementine had 6 children, with 6 living, and they were married 19 years. Also notice the birthdates of Eli (12/1883) and Sousan (2/1884), and how close they are together. Eli's tombstone does show 12/16/1883 as his birth. I have also seen somewhere that David and Clementine were married on November 22, 1889. The date (12/1886) of Sade E. on the 1900 census matches the 12/22/1886, on the tombstone of Sadie Estella Petty (or Penticuff) Hinds. Is it a possiblity that Sadie's mother was married to a Petty before she married David Penticuff? And was David Penticuff married before as well? If anyone knows much about this family, I'd like to make sure I have the correct parents listed for Sadie Estella.
