    2. It certainly sounds as if you are making progress to me, Sarah. Don't give up. And if you figure out some of the Virginia vs NC bit, maybe you could share with me. It might come in handy with my Voiles line. That's exactly where I am, trying to make it out of East Tennessee in the right direction. And, boy, is that a difficult one! H

    3. Pat, There is a George Finley who was born Nov 28, 1719, in Dublin, Ireland. He died about 1787 in Westmoreland Co, PA. He is related to the Augusta, VA, Finleys. I don't have his descendants but will try to find out if there is a James who might have ended up in NC. Or maybe there is another generation in between. I have James Findley as born about 1780. I'm always amazed at how much traveling all of these families did. I have James Finley's (Findley's) daughter Nancy as born in 1802 in TN. She died in Little Crab sometime after 1880. Do you have more detail on James and Elizabeth ( maybe Love)? Sarah

    3. Helen, I will watch for Voiles when I am looking in NC. Lots and lots of Fentress Co families were in Granville or Bute or Warren counties in NC in the late 1700s. They then went west into Rowan or Surry or Wilkes (depending on the date) around 1800 and then into TN through the Cumberland Gap, I guess. After 10 years of watching this Fentress rootsweb list serve, reading the deed books in these counties is almost like reading about friends. Sarah
